2. The Advantages of Mulch

Benefit 0f mulch using :

1. Reduce evaporation of water and fertilizer by sun light
thus reduce the cost of fertilization and irrigation
2. Prevent erosion of beds in the rainy season
3. Reduse maintenance cost of : weeding, fertilizing and
watering
4. Keeping humidity, temperature and soil friability
5. Optimizing for photosynthesis through the light
reflected from the mulch surface
6. Inhibit the growth of weeds through the black color on
the inside except the cyperaous and bananas
7. Warm temperatures due to the closure of mulch can
stimulate root growth
Disadvantages
- Cost.
- Removal and disposal.
Non-degradable plastic mulch must be removed from
the field
 3. Mulch Installation

a. Installating Time
• Installation of mulch do directly after the distribution of
fertilizer, and / or Calcification done, tidying beds,
mixing / leveling the bed and watering
• Installation of mulch was done during the mid day when
the temperature was hot , between the hours of 09.00-
14.00

1. U-shaped bamboo pegs
2. Knife or scissors to cut the mulch

c. Procedure of Mulch Fittings
Use The Human Labour
1. Prepare all beds reduced mulch from 0.5 to 1 meter,
because the mulch will expand when pulled and
sunning
2. Gently pull each end at the same time to prevent the
tear, and then end with a bamboo pegs
3. Peg one side with a distance of 50 cm for each peg,
after finish on one side, other side pegs pulling slowly
so mulch beds covered with tightly
4. Beds are fitted with themulch left for 5 to 7 days for
nutrient availability then created planting hole
