1. API SPECIFICATIONS
• INTRODUCTION
• The American Petroleum Institute (API) has designated standards, these standards are
accepted as standards for the industry.
• It has provided certain guidelines regarding cement testing.
• According to API Section 10A. The next set of slides will determine the API specifications
regarding the type of waters present in the slurry:
• Free Water
• Mix Water
• Minimum Water

2. TYPES OF WATER

• FREE WATER
• DEFINITION
• The water obtained after stirring the slurry in atmospheric
consistometer for 20 mins at 80 Deg F and standalone for 2
hours.
• WHY DOES IT OCCUR?
• The slurry is not sufficiently agitated for good mixing or too much
water is being used.
• DRAW BACK
• This permeable or set cement will be weak and would be attacked
by invading fluids.

2. TYPES OF WATER

• MINIMUM WATER
• DEFINITION
• Water which causes consistency of Slurry at 30 BC after stirring in atmospheric
consistometer at 80 deg F.
• MIX WATER
• DEFINITION
• The amount of water required to mix the cement slurry.
