COULOMB’S LAW:

SUPERPOSITION
PRINCIPLE
COULOMB’S LAW
EXAMPLE
In fission, a nucleus of uranium-238, which contains 92
protons, divides into two smaller spheres, each having 46
protons and a radius of 5.9 × 10−15 m. What is the
magnitude of the repulsive electric force pushing the two
spheres apart?
q = +e
= 46(1.602 × 10−19 C)
q = 7.369 × 10−18 C
r = 2R
= 2(5.9 × 10−15 m)
r = 1.18 × 10−14 m
SUPERPOSITION PRINCIPLE
The Superposition Principle (also known
as superposition property) states that for
all linear systems, the net response at a
given place and time caused by two or
more stimuli is the sum of the responses
which would have been caused by each
stimulus individually.
For Coulomb's Law, the stimuli are forces.
