Definition of Terms
• Drugs
– Drugs are articles that are intended for use in the 
diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment, or preventi
on of disease in humans or animals, and any articl
es other than food, water, or oxygen that are inten
ded to affect the mental or body function of huma
ns or animals.

– a law or set of laws suggested by
a government and made official by a parliament.

Therefore:
Drug legislation are laws or set of laws promulgated
by a certain country of parliament.

• Controlled Drugs
– A drug or other substance that is tightly controlled by
the government because it may be abused or cause
addiction. The control applies to the way the
substance is made, used, handled, stored, and
distributed. 
• Generics Drugs
– A generic drug is a medication created to be the same
as an already marketed brand-name drug in dosage
form, safety, strength, route of administration, quality,
performance characteristics, and intended use.

• Orphan Drugs
– An orphan drug is a pharmaceutical agent developed
to treat medical conditions which, because they are so
rare, would not be profitable to produce without
government assistance.
• Over the Counter Drugs
– Over-the-counter (OTC) drugs are those available
without a prescription. OTC drugs enable people to
relieve many annoying symptoms and to cure some
diseases simply and without the cost of seeing a
doctor.

– Herbal medicines are one type of dietary
supplement. They are sold as tablets, capsules,
powders, teas, extracts, and fresh or dried plants.

national health product regulatory agency created
by Republic Act (RA3720), as amended by
