HISTORY
Mahindra World City is located outside Chennai city and was inaugurated on 21 September
2002 by the then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu J. Jayalalitha. Built on the model of
sustainable urbanization Mahindra World City grew from a bed of business, infrastructure
and sustainable practices before evolving into a completely integrated city within a decade
of its inauguration

WASTE DISPOSAL
A 16 metric ton capacity Solid waste management plant has been established at Mahindra World
City Chennai
System for operation and maintenance of municipal waste management covering adequately the
process
Presently generates about 2 MT per day of waste which is projected to grow up to 16 MT per
day
Out of the total waste generated ~ 40-45% constitutes biodegradable organic matter and 30-40%
recyclable material

Installation of Solar PV :
The roof top at has 210 kWp and that of Lakewood's has 800 kWp Solar PV installed and
operational and 250 KWP is in execution, Ranka paper has installed 100 KMP solar PV installed

The system starts its operation automatically in the morning as soon as the solar modules receive
the minimum sunlight required to power up the inverters
Installed over an area of 800 Sq.m on the rooftop and consists of 315 Multi Crystalline Solar
Photovoltaic Modules each of 240W
Designed to generate 116000 units generated annually through the Solar Power Plant, and offset
60 tones of CO2 annually
BIO DIVERSITY
An all new Bio-CNG plant was set up at Mahindra World City spread over an area of 1,000
square meters
The Bio-CNG plant will create a carbon neutral ecosystem Bio-CNG plant converts 100% of the
eight tons of food and kitchen waste generated daily in the city into 1000m3 of raw biogas
This raw bio gas can be enriched to yield 400kg/day of purified CNG grade fuel which is
equivalent to a 200kW power plant
As a by-product, four tons of organic fertilizer is produced each day The green energy (Bio-
CNG) is effectively used to replace CNG as an automotive fuel for CNG buses and tractors
LPG for cooking purposes, as well as to power street lights at Mahindra World City, Chennai
The organic fertilizer is used by farmers to enhance soil fertility Furthermore, the power NOTE :
generated is used for buses for free shuttle service and tractors for cultivation
