OBJECTIVES

Definition of terms
• cognition-  is a term referring to the mental processes involved in gaining
knowledge and comprehension or the way we think

• affect – the term used to represent emotions directed to the self, the environment
and to others.

• behavior – is the action form or manifestation of attitude.

• self-esteem – is an attitude or view that an individual has about him or herself.

• self-concept - how an individual views who they are based on their habits, skills and
temperament.

• implicit attitude – are thoughts or feelings that conscious awareness does not
cover.

• explicit attitude- are attitudes that are at the conscious level, are
deliberately formed and are easy to self-report.
“SELF”
It is what an individual sees, perceives, and
defines oneself apart from others. And the
union of the following:

PSYCHOLOGICAL SPIRITUAL
PHYSICAL DIMENSION
oIt revolves around the
physical body of a
human being; it’s
process, functions,
mechanisms, and
chemistry.
PYSCHOLOGICAL DIMENSION

oIt contains the concepts


of stress, cognition,
behavior, attitude,
emotion and personality.
SPIRITUAL DIMENSION
oIt allows us to view ourselves in
a spiritual level – as spiritual
beings.
KNOWING ONESELF
Must grow with deeper understanding of what makes you happy, how you relate with your
surroundings, give importance to your strengths, limitations and even your soft spots.

Takes a lot of courage and guts


Get acquainted with people that
inspire and motivate you to do better

It takes mindful effort and a lot of time

COMPONENTS OF ATTITUDES
AFFECTIVE
- this involves a persons feelings/ emotions about the attitude object.
EXAMPLE: “I am scared of spiders.”

BEHAVIOUR
- the way the attitude we have influence how we act or behave.
EXAMPLE: “I will avoid and scream if I see one.”

COGNITION
- this influence a persons belief/ knowledge about an attitude.
EXAMPLE: “I belive spiders are dangerous.”

Activity 1: “THIS IS ME”
Instructions:

1. On a bond paper, use your pen/ crayon to draw symbol/s that would best illustrate your
thoughts and feelings about who you are.

2. Work silently and finish your task within 25minutes.

3. When time is over, answer the following questions:

a. how did you feel about the activity


b. What symbols, figures, or drawings best illustrate who you are? why?
c. What do you think have influenced such traits or characteristics?
