The Circulatory System

Circulatory system :Movement of blood around your body

Same way
• What is the circulatory system composed of?

• Heart

• Blood

• Blood vessels
HEART
• What is the function of heart ?

• The heart is an essential organ that pumps blood in the

circulatory system to provide a continuous flow of

blood throughout the human body.

• What is the size of your heart?

• It is about the size of your fist.

• Where is the heart located?

• The heart is in the chest cavity. It is protected by

the ribcage.
STRUCTURE OF THE HEART
The heart is divided into four chambers consisting of two atria and two ventricles;
The atria receive blood, while the ventricles pump blood.
The right atrium receives deoxygenated blood from the body through main vein.
The deoxygenated blood then moves to the right ventricle where it is pump to the lungs.
The lungs re-oxygenate the blood and send it to the left atrium.
Oxygenated blood moves to the left atrium to the left ventricle.
Blood is pumped out of the left ventricle to the main artery ( aorta) , which sends oxygenated blood to all parts  of
the body.
Valves
Blood Vessels

.
Arteries Capillaries Veins
• Pump blood away from the heart • Very tiny blood vessels that • Carry blood to the heart
to the rest of the body connect arteries and veins

• A very thick muscular wall • Wider than arteries and have

• Have very thin walls elastic thin walls

• Carry oxygenated blood, except • Carry deoxygenated blood,

for pulmonary artery except for the pulmonary veins
How does my heart pump blood?

• Your heart is divided into  two separate pumping systems, the right

side and the left side.

• The right side of your heart receives oxygen-poor blood from your

veins and pumps it to your lungs, where it picks up oxygen and

gets rid of carbon dioxide.

• The left side of your heart receives oxygen rich blood from your

lungs and pumps it through your arteries to the rest of your body.
