Czech Republic

Raul Medellin
Famine
• Famine would cause Czech Republic to
experience a population loss.
• In the past The Great Famine killed off one
tenth of the Czech population. However today
there would probably be international aid to
prevent that many deaths.
War
• War would increase deaths and decrease
population growth. Most deaths would be
males.
• After world war II many ethnic Germans died
from violence, hunger and illness during and
after the massive exodus. About 1.3 million
ethnic Germans were deported to Germany.
Lowering of the Marital Age

• Lowering the marital age would most likely

increase the population growth of the country.
• The marital age in Czech Republic is 18 or 16
with court consent.
Development of Effective Birth Control

• Development of effective birth control would

lower the total fertility rate causing the
population growth of Czech Republic to
decrease.
Outbreak of Cholera Epidemic
• A cholera epidemic would probably not affect
the population of Czech Republic much
because there is adequate sanitation and
there isn’t crowded conditions.
Severe, Chronic Air Pollution
• Severe, chronic air pollution can lead to many
people dying from chronic respiratory disease,
lung cancer and would possibly shorten the
population’s life expectancy.
Lowering of Infant Mortality
• Lowering of infant mortality would greatly
increase the population growth of the country
as long as the number of births remains the
same.
Start-up of a Social Security System
• A start up of a social security system would
possibly have a negative effect on the
population growth since couples wouldn’t
have to worry about having more children in
order to provide for them when they retire.
Economic Boom
• An economic boom would have a positive
effect on the country’s population due to
immigration coming into the country due to
availability of jobs.
Economic Depression
• An economic depression could have a negative
effect on population growth because people
would possibly emigrate in search of better
job opportunities in other countries.
Legislation of Child Labor Laws
• Population growth would likely decrease
because of legislation of child labor laws due
to children becoming an economic burden on
families.
More employment opportunities for
women
• More employment opportunities for women
would have a negative impact on population
growth because women would be able to be
out working.
Energy
• In 2000, net electricity generation was 69.4 billion
kWh, of which 77.8% came from fossil fuels, 2.5 %
from hydropower, 18.6% from nuclear energy, and
the remainder from other sources.
• It isn’t really known for use or production of an
alternative fuel.
• Current emissions of CO2 on a per capita are slightly
higher than average for OECD countries at 11.6
ton/capita versus 11.1 ton/capita.
