POLLUTION
 Pollution is an undesirable change in the
physical, chemical or biological characteristics
of air, water and soil.

 Pollution is the introduction of contaminants

into a natural environment that causes
instability, harm or discomfort to the ecosystem
i.e. physical systems or living organisms.

Land pollution
AIR POLLUTION
Addition of any unwanted substances occurred
in the air, then it is called air pollution
EFFECT OF URBANISATION
 Malaria and dengue fever are
two of the common diseases
spreading as a result of
urbanization

 Harmful gases due to waste

material causes many
diseases such as bronchitis,
pneumonia
EFFECTS OF INDUSTRIAL
POLLUTION
 Uncontrolled cutting of
trees result in increase in
carbon dioxide level in the
atmosphere

 Respiratory system of
effected by cancer, asthma
EFFECT OF AUTOMOBILE
POLLUTION
 Impair the body’s immune
system
 Reduce the release of oxygen
to body tissues
 Increase a person’s risk of
cancer-related death
 Contribute to birth defects,
low birth weight, and infant
deaths
 Harm blood vessels in healthy
individuals
WATER POLLUTION

 When any undesirable

substance mixes with water it
become contaminated this
results in water pollution.

 Sources of water pollution is

oils heavy metals, detergents,
domestic water, pesticides,
fertilizers. industrial water
and radioactive waters, etc are
commonly found in polluted
water
HARMFUL EFFECT OF WATER
POLLUTION
1 Mercury, cadmium, cobalt and
other impurities dissolved in
water causes Diarrhea

2 Water pollution is responsible for

death of microorganisms and
fisher

3 Depletion of oxygen content in

water, mostly due to speeding
of oil spills on surface of water,
affects respiration in organisms
CONTROL OF WATER POLLUTION

1 Sewage Treatment

 Sewage should be converted into useful organic

waste before being discharged into water bodies.

 Sewage water is mixed with air and bacteria

which digest organic waste.

 The water free form microorganism it is treated

by various methods lick chlorination,
evaporation, exchange and absorption.

development a method
By which polluted water
is treated
The polluted water is
stored in a sallow pond
which is called oxidation

LAND POLLUTION
 Land pollution is
defined as the build-up
in soils of persistent
toxic compounds,
chemicals, salts,
radioactive materials, or
disease causing agents,
which have adverse
effects on plant growth
and animal health.
HARMFUL EFFECTS OF LAND
POLLUTION
 Land pollution can affect
wildlife, plants, and humans
in a number of ways, such as:

 Cause problems in the

respiratory system .
 Cause problems on the skin
 Lead to birth defects.
 Cause various kinds of cancers.
