INTRODUCTION

• Traditional method of removing the surface

wastes is highly inefficient
• In this system floating wastes are collected by
mechanism operated with pedal by pedaling
the wheel
OBJECTIVES
• To clean the solid wastes floating on pond or
lake water
• To learn project management and fabrication
skill
• To study the working mechanism of sprockets,
chain, bearing, pedal and so on
SIGNIFICANCES

• It is very easy to operate by using pedal

arrangement
• It is portable and compact in size which
initiates easy handling
• It is relatively eco-friendly and pollution free
LIMITATIONS
• It is able to collect only the floating wastes in
pond
• High chance of corrosion

COMPONENTS USED
Shaft
 rotating machine element
 transmit power from one part to another
Sprocket
 a profiled wheel with teeth
 used in vehicles or other machinery either to transmit rotary motion
between two shafts
Chain
 serial assembly of connected pieces, called links
 designed for transferring power in machines
Wire frame (net)
 Welded wire mesh
 widely used in agricultural, industrial, transportation, mines, gardening,
machine protection and other decorations
CONTD…
Bearing
 machine element that constrains relative motion to only the desired
motion
 reduces friction between moving parts
Pedal
 the part of a machine that the rider pushes with their foot to propel
the assembly
 the pedals are attached to a crank for driving sprockets
Mild steel rod
 type of low-carbon steel that is widely used for vehicle bodywork
 can be safely welded, heat shrunk, and cold worked without seriously
affecting their strength
CONTD…
Bucket
 made of plastic
 used for collection of wastes
Jaw
 curved material (preferred of plastic)
 used for holding or lifting the wastes
WORKING MECHANISM

CALCULATIONS
Power supply from pedal = 70.66 Watts
Tension on shaft due to waste and lifter,
= mgsin45˚
= 20.79 N⋅m
• Length of shaft = 50 cm = 0.5 m
• Reaction at each supported end = 10.24 N
CONTD…
•
Using 44 and 18 teeth sprocket.so,
= Or, =
∴ =N
To calculate torque on shaft,
P = Or, =
∴ = 9.20 N⋅m
Bending moment at shaft,
= F.d
= 10.4 N * 0.05 m
= 0.52 Nm.
Equivalent twisting moment is given by,
=
= = 9.22 N⋅m
CONTD…
•For  shaft design;
We have,
=
Where,
= equivalent twisting moment
=torsional shear stress
= diameter of shaft
We get, D= 9.21 mm
So, shaft with diameter 10 mm selected.
