Course Description:
This course provides an introduction to different types of
disasters and calamities whether nature or man-made
phenomenon and its effects to public health. This will further
develop their proficiencies as it provides greater avenue to define
their roles in assessing, analysing, organizing and evaluating the
public health responses to disasters.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of the course, you should be able to:

1. Describe types of disasters and their public health


consequences;
2. Improve competencies in planning and managing public
health preparedness infrastructure needed in the different
types of disasters and calamities;
3. Identify the key stakeholders involved in the management;
4. Understand the policy, legal and ethical frameworks for
public health preparedness.
