3. ACTIVITY STATEMENT
Background
The entire Philippine archipelago today is under the state of calamity until
September 2021 due to the public health emergency brought about by the Covid-
19 pandemic. It can be recalled that pre-Covid times, the state of national security
is unstable due to several threats such as the overlapping territorial claims and
maritime domains of China in the West Philippine Sea, trans-boundary and local
issues in terrorism posted by both local and international terrorist groups and other
extremist groups, drug-trafficking, piracy, smuggling, human trafficking, natural
threats like typhoon, flooding, and earthquakes, and technological threats among
others. These coercions continue to threat the lives, properties, and freedoms of
Filipino people. The appalling situations these times hamper the country’s potential
economic advancements. With these pressing national issues and concerns, the
Philippine Government is calling its citizens to defend the state in any way they
can under the conditions provided by law.

As part of MSU- Gensan’s mandate to train human resources for the improvement
of its serviced communities, it is necessary to provide relevant learning spaces that
will encourage the students to amplify the knowledge, skills, and competencies
needed for them to contribute to the country’s national security. With MSU-GSC’s
commitment to nation building, it is with great desire its academic and non-
academic initiatives will prepare the students to become proactive in addressing
real-world social, economic, and environmental challenges met by its serviced
communities.

In pursuit of this desired end, MSU-GSC, College of Education, Bachelor of

Elementary Education Department will design an activity called, TUKLAS BEED
which stands for Training University students to Kick-start and e-Levate Alternative
Solutions. This will be a flagship activity that will hone the student’s critical and
creative thinking through the different initiatives that will be implemented. One of
the activities will be a webinar series about national issues and concerns. With the
insights that they will gain from the activity, it is hoped that the future elementary
educators will become more conscious of their civic responsibilities, thus helping
them to be effective and efficient contributors for nation building.
Objective
The activity aims to enhance the civic consciousness of the participants about the
pressing national issues and concerns and inspire them to participate in initiatives
devoted to improving health, education, environment, safety, recreation and moral
of the citizenry and other social welfare services.
Coverage
The activity will consist of webinar series about national issues and concerns
namely; national security, environmental awareness and protection, disaster
