    Translation memories are:
    language pair databases that store segments of texts that have been'
    'previously translated for recall later on
    Segment:
    They can be any of the following which have been previously
    translated:
    • Sentence
    • Paragraph
    • Phrase
    • Heading
    Translation unit:
    • Building block of TM
    • ST plus TT constitutes one TU
    IS IT LIKE MACHINE TRANSLATION??
    Benefit:
     no need to translate same sentence twice
     all previous translations stored for future use
     the more you add the more you recall
     help translate faster
    Empty TM
    It is also beneficial:
    • Repetitive words
    • Auto propagation
    • Auto substitution
    Working:
    • the tool looks for matches
    • accept, amend or not use
    • matches are of 4 types:
    • context match
    • 100% match
    • Fuzzy match
    • Fragment match
    Making:
    • use alignment feature to form TM from existing translations
    • match source and target files side by side to determine which parts
    belong together
