Properties of Matter

Mr. Billy Joe P. Baynosa

Science Teacher
Learning Competencies

At the end of the lesson, the students are

expected to:

Describe the different objects based on their

characteristics

Define weight, mass, and volume

Properties
of
Matter
Properties of Matter

Weight – refers to the pull of gravity on an

object.
Properties of Matter

Mass – refers to the amount of matter of an

object.
- mass is commonly expressed in milligram
(mg), gram (g), or kilogram (kg).
Properties of Matter

Volume – refers to the space occupied by

matter.
States of Matter

Matter exists in the different states:

Solid, Liquids, and Gas.
Learning Competencies

Classifying objects and materials as solid, Liquid, and

gas based on some observable characteristics.

Compare and contrast properties of Solid, Liquid,

and gas.
States of Matter

Solid – are rigid and compact. They can be

held in the hands.
States of Matter

Some solids are hard, while others are soft.

Hardness – is the ability of solids to resists scratching

or breaking.
States of Matter

Some solids are hard, while others are soft.

Softness -the quality of being easy to mold, cut,

compress, or fold.
States of Matter

Some solids are hard, while others are soft.

Malleability – is the ability of solids metals to be shaped

into different figures/forms
States of Matter

Some solids are hard, while others are soft.

Ductility – the property of copper. This can formed into strips,
shavings, and wires.
States of Matter

Some solids are hard, while others are soft.

Brittleness – the property that makes solids break easily.

States of Matter

Liquid – have definite volume but no definite shape

They take the shape of their containers.
States of Matter

Gas – have no definite volume and no definite shape.

They flow easily.
