Think this over:
“To equate journalism with just
writing the news is inaccurate.
Writing is only half the
challenge. Equally essential to
journalism is the ability to
know what needs to be
written about and the skill to
accurately gather the
necessary information.”

Always look for the “other side” of the

story. Use neutral language or “third
person.”

Gathering Data for News

You may be a very good writer but if your facts

are all wrong, then you are not a journalist –
you are a fiction writer.

Tip: Begin with 5Ws and H and collect as many

data as possible to explain and expound your
news article well.

MMDA hauls 187 truckloads of poll trash
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has
collected close to 200 truckloads of discarded election materials
since February.

According to MMDA Metro Parkway Cleaning Group head

Francis Martinez who was interviewed on Saturday, the 187
truckloads of election paraphernalia gathered by his team from
Feb. 9 to May 20 included posters featuring local and national
candidates, leaflets and tarpaulins, among other materials.

“These were collected from all over Metro Manila, particularly

San Juan, Caloocan, Muntinlupa, Las Piñas, Parañaque, Quezon
City and Manila,” Martinez said.

According to him, the bulk of the garbage came from Quezon City
and Manila.

“Many of these were posters [taken down] from school walls and
electrical lines … It looked like these cities were celebrating their
fiesta because of the posters that looked like ‘banderitas,’” he said.

This year’s haul of election paraphernalia exceeded that of the 2013

elections, the MMDA official added.

Earlier, Martinez told the Inquirer that from Feb. 9 to May 10, his
men were able to gather 52 truckloads of discarded election
materials, or the equivalent of 313 cubic meters or 87 tons.

Every school head a researcher – SDS Panganiban
In a move to make every school head a full-fledged researcher, the Schools Division Office
of Imus City, through the School Governance and Operations Division – Planning Section,
conducted an intensive 3-day capacity building cum workshop in conducting action research
from January 9-11 at Hotel Dominique, Tagaytay City.

OIC-Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Hermogenes M. Panganiban, challenged the

school heads to “walk the talk” in producing more action researches and to embrace its long-
term impact in solving school-based issues and concerns that need immediate action and
strategic decisions.

“Research is a formalized curiosity…it is the perfect solution to all the problems that we are
encountering in schools,” SDS Panganiban said.

He continued that “for a school head to make decisions, information should come from
evidence-based research and not just an opinion or assumption.”

A total of 12 research proposals were presented on the third day before a panel led by OIC-
ASDS Mr. Galileo L. Go, Chairman of the Schools Division Research Committee.

The outputs will undergo revision as suggested and corrected by the SDRC panel members
composed of Mr. Ivan Honorpette A. Mijares, Ms. Riza C. Garcia, Ms. Matea-Alvyn H.
Trinidad and Ms. Jenielyn A. Sadang.

According to Ms. Trinidad, OIC-SEPS in Planning and Research, all school heads are
scheduled to present their completed researches in April and will automatically be slated to
present in October during the 5th Conference of Researchers for Action and Transformative
Endeavor (CReATE), the annual research conference of the Division.

“With teachers and school heads recognized as vital elements in the quality of teaching and
learning in schools, a sound and evidence-based research will lead to the continuous
improvement on student learning outcomes and opportunities to learn,” she said.

“historic, trendsetter, trailblazing initiative from our highly respected officials in Imus, in
collaboration with DepEd Imus City headed by SDS Jimmy Panganiban and ASDS Galileo
Go.”

“DAPAT”

Emmanuel L. Maliksi, DepEd at ng Department of Environment and Natural Resources

“Congratulations! Eventually, target natin is for the whole country to become green, hindi sa

the Most Eco-friendly and Sustainable Schools ang magsisilbing pilot at model school ng
Green School Program.

It will be a long journey pero
