Movement

What is movement
• Movement is the moving of parts of a part/appendage with
change in position a change in location.
• This helps the organism( mainly plants) to interact with its
surroundings while still in one location. All plants make use
of this method seen as they cannot locomote it allows
them to move toward sunlight in order to photosensitize.
What is movement
• Locomotion is the movement of body parts for a change in position to
occur. This can only occur in animal seen as to locomote the entire
body my change position.
• This allows the organism to :
 To find a mate
 To avoid danger
 To eat
 Escape predators
 To make their young
Skeletal functions

Skeletal structure dictates the protection, support, locomotion and

blood formation.
In humans this quite the complex structure as it performs many
important jobs simultaneously. Which makes it a invaluable part of us.
Protection
• The human skeletal structure assumes a “Bipedal position”
allowing for an upright body. Our bone s form two cone
shaped ribs and a cranium .
• These bones protect the brain, heart , lungs and liver.
support
• The rigid frame work of our skeletons allow for a upright position and
resistance to the planets gravity , gives a you stable footing when
moving and counter balance for abstract movments. This is one of
the reason why humans never evolved abdominal muscles.
Blood formation
• Blood formation occurs in the bone marrow a soft spongey tissue.
• Stem cells in the red bone marrow called hemocytoblasts give rise to
all of the formed elements in blood.
• These include: Red blood cells, most white blood cells, and platelets
are produced in the bone marrow.
Human limb mechanisms

• Muscles move by the act of contracting exerting a pulling force but

relaxing does not create a pushing force instead a pair of antagonistic
muscles work in synchronization with each other when one relaxes
the other pulls allowing for movement in both directions.
• The muscles that form the antagonistic pair are the:
• * Flexor - allows the join to bend
• * Extensor – allows the muscles to straighten
