    Characteristics of Acids, Bases and Salts
    1. ACID
    Young fruits will feel sour  ACIDS
    ACID is a substance that can produce hydrogen ions
    (H+) in water.
    Some acid are known :
    No Acid Name Contained In
    1 Acetic acid (C2H4O2) Vinegar solution
    2 Ascorbic acid (C6H8O6) Orange, tomatoes, vegetables
    3 Citric Acid (C6H8O7) Orange
    4 Boric acid (BH3O3) Eyewash solution
    5 Carbonic acid (H2CO3) Carbonated drinks
    6 Hydrochloric acid (HCl) Gastric acid, eye drops
    2. BASES

     BASES is a substance that can produce hydroxide ions


    (OH-) in water.
     EX : soap, tooth paste, deodorant, gastric medicine.

    Some bases are known:


    No Alkaline name Contained in
    1 Aluminum hydroxide  [Al(OH)₃] Deodorant, antacid
    2 Calcium hydroxide [Ca(OH)₂] Mortar and plaster
    3 Magnesium hydroxide [Mg(OH)2] Medication, antacids
    4 Sodium hydroxide [NaOH] Soap ingredients
    3. SALT
    Is a compound formed from the reaction of acids and bases
    EX: kitchen salt (NaCl)
    can be obtained by means :
    - precipitate seawater (evaporation or crystallization)
    - reacting acids and bases (neutralization)
    HCl + NaOH  NaCl + H2O

    1. FENOFTALEIN :

    BASES : RED

    2. METHYLIENE RED :

    3. BROMTHYMOL BLUE :
    ACID : YELLOW
    BASES : BLUE
