What do we mean
by “Technology”?

Technology refers to
advancements in the
methods and tools to solve
problems or achieve a goal. In
the classroom, technology
can encompass all kinds of
tools from low-tech pencil,
paper, and chalkboard, to the
use of PRESENTATION
Software, online
collaboration, and more.
Furthermore, Technology has enabled innovative
and “early adopter” educators to activate Student –
Centered Learning (SCL) tactics in class. Teachers
are increasingly adopting SCL methods by applying
technology, to enrich each student’s learning
journey, in the classroom.
Importance of Technology in Education
1. Students became interactive.
Students are engaging with
technology constantly. Learners
like to be interactive, and
learning through technology
has now become a part of their
lifestyle.
2. New Teachers are demanding it.
The technology movement has been
implemented education as well as other professional
jobs. For new teachers, technology is considered a
necessity for the learning environment.

3. Technology has the ability to enhance

relationships between teachers and students.
When teachers integrate technology into subject
areas, teachers grow into roles of adviser, content
expert, and coach. Technology helps make teaching
and learning more meaningful and fun.
4. With technology there are no limitations.
Having access to other information outside of
the book gives students many different ways to
learn a concept. And Teachers can come up with
creative ways to teach their students that keeps
them engaged.
5. Technology makes collaboration more
effective
- In assigned group projects you can do at
home and you can connect your team;
exchanging topics through internet.
Advantages of Technology Integration in the Education Sphere

a. Reduces the burden of teachers

-technology helps you track the students’ progress of
their individual achievement
b. Develops Teaching Strategies
- it helps the educator a strategies in any teaching
method to cater to each diversity of students to make the
teaching effective
c. Curriculum Development
-planning of curricular and co-curricular inputs in order
to realize planned goals and objectives
d. Visual Presentation
- students became more
interactive and interested with
the concept during lecture.
e. Develop Learning Environments
- e.g. Simulation
Best Practices of using Technology in the Classroom

When using Technology for teaching, there are four

basic principles to be kept in mind:

Alignment Accessibility Assessment Reinforcement

Alignment Technology should be used for a purpose –

not for the sake of being flashy and not as a distraction
from other forms of pedagogy.
Be sure that technology that you
Accessibility
intend to use is accessible to your students.
As with lectures and
discussions provide students with guidance
Assessment
when dealing with media technologies.
Technology should be used as
reinforcement and supplement in teaching.
Reinforcement
• Make sure you • Don’t use

• Use the “just because”.

Top Reasons Teachers Use Technology in the Classroom

 Increase student motivation to learn.

 Reduce and expand on content being
taught.
 Respond to a variety of learning styles.
 Introduce new learning activities.
 Provide additional practice to
struggling learners/students.
 Providing prompt progress information.
 Promote improvement of teaching.
 Change the pace of classroom work.
 Demonstrate something you can’t show any
other way.
 Increased teacher productivity (record
keeping, better materials, freeing time)
 Make students more technology literate.

Note:
• Technology should not replace teachers. It’s main use
is to enable students learn better through increasing
their engagement in educational activities.
• Technology is not having a cool gadgets; it is about
the learning process. Technology has to improve the
learning process and aim at improving students.
• Technology has to facilitate and stimulate individual
learning. Students should use technology to learn on
their own with limited help from teachers.
“Any technology, which increases the rate of
learning, would enable the teacher to teach less and
the learner to learn more.”
