Learning Outcomes

 At the end of this topic, You should be able to

 Do conversion from degrees to radians and vice
versa.
 Define the trigonometrical ratios sine, cosine &
tangent with reference to the lengths of the sides of a
right-angled triangle.
 Explain how to calculate an angle given one of the
trigonometrical ratios.

Key Terms you must be able to use

If you have mastered this topic, you should be able to use the following terms
correctly in your Exam.

Fundamental Mathematics for Computing Integration

Introduction

• Radian
  measure vs. degree measure:
 Radian and degree are units used to measure an angle.
 1 radian = (degree)
 (degree) = 60’ (minutes)
 1’ (minute) = 60” (seconds)

Sine Rule and Cosine Rule

 To solve a triangle is to find the lengths of each of its

sides and all its angles.
 The sine rule is used when we are given:
 two angles and one side, or
 two sides and a non-included angle.
 The cosine rule is used when we are given either:
 Three sides, or
 Two sides and the included angle.
