LOCATION
Nanded city is located at 18°30' North latitude and 77°10' East longitude at about 489 meters above mean
sea level. It is about 260 km each from Aurangabad and Hyderabad and about 300 km from Nagpur.

The district of Nanded lies in the border of Maharashtra and shares boundaries with Yavatmal District in
the north, Parbhani, Latur and Osmanabad Districts in the west, Bidar District of Karnataka in the south
and Nizamabad & Adilabad Districts of Andhra Pradesh in the east.
HISTORY
• Even though Nanded is only mentioned in historical accounts since 4th century, the evidence of human habitation in this area has been found for the past 40
to 50 thousand years.
• It is the second largest city in Marathwada subdivision. Nanded is the center of governance of Nanded district. Nanded is a major destination for Sikh
pilgrims, because the 10th Sikh Guru (Guru Gobind Singh) made Nanded his permanent abode and passed his guruship to the Guru Granth Sahib before his
death in 1708.
• Malegaon Yatra dedicated to Lord Khandoba in Malegaon taluka is considered one of biggest in south India. Merchants from all India come here to buy or
sell animals like horse, camel, sheep, goats, cow, dog etc.
