1. Primary classification- this is the summation of all the
numerical values assigned to whorls appearing in a
fingerprint chart which are expressed as numerator and
denominator plus the pre – established fraction of 1/ 1
Four stages to attain the Primary Classification
1. Pairing
1& 2- first pair 5& 6- third pair
9 & 10- fifth pair
3 & 4- second pair 7 & 8- fourth pair
Pairing

Fingers no.1 and no. 2- 16

Fingers no. 3 and no. 4- 8 Fingers no. 7 and no. 8- 2
Fingers no. 5 and no. 6 -- 4
Fingers no. 9 and no. 10--- 1
2 . Assigning with numerical value to whorl only

Whorl- with numerical value

Arch / Loop- no numerical value

3. Knowing the Denominator and Numerator

1, 3, 5, 7, 9 – First part of the pairs (DENOMINATOR)

2, 4, 6, 8, 10-- second part of the pairs ( NUMERATOR)

4. Summation of the numerical value of Whorls Assigned to the

fingers plus the pre- established fraction 1/ 1
Patterns Symbols
Plain Arch A
Tented Arch T
Ulnar loop U
Radial loop R
Plain whorl W
Central pocket loop C
Double loop D
Accidental whorl X
The Primary
Classification
The values are assigned as follows;
Fingers no.1 and no.2 = 16
Fingers no. 3 and 4= 8
Fingers no. 5 and no. 6= 4
Fingers no. 7 and 8 = 2
Fingers no. 9 and 10= 1
Whorls in the primary classification are also known as numerical patterns, while
loops and arches are the non –numerical patterns
The fingers in a set of print are numbered in its natural sequence, beginning with
the thumb of the right hand as number 1 and with little finger as number 10
The fingers are grouped into two; The denominator and numerator as follows
Numerator- Right index finger (2)
Right ring finger (4)
Left thumb (6)
Left middle finger ( 8)
Left little finger ( 10)
Denominator- Right thumb (1)
Right middle finger(3)
Right little finger ( 5)
Left index finger (7)
Left ring finger- (9)
