ABSTRACT
Prensently Automobiles and machines use incompressible
fluids as Shock absorbers. These Shock absorbers Provides
damping effect thus Converting kinetic effect of sudden shock
into heat energy dissipated.
Our attempt is to design Electromagnets inorder to replace
these shock absorbers by using the concept of polarity.
This system consists of two Electromagnets and 12V battery
assembled in such a way that a clearance is maintained
between them by placing Similar poles.
RESULTS
This project resulted in Increased comfort for the
passenger
Reduced annoying Sounds

Additional advantages
Clearance can be varied by Making change in input
voltage and number of windings

INTRODUCTION
 .Electromagnetic suspension is the magnetic
levitation of an object achieved by
constantly altering the strength of a
magnetic field produced by Electromagnets
using a feedback loop.In most cases the
levitation effect is mostly due to permanent
magnets as they don’t have any power
dissipation,with Electromagnets only used
to stabilize the effect.
OBJECTIVES
First and foremost design of mechanical part of an electromagnet
is an important aspect in this project, close to practical
applications.
Developing powerful Electromagnets according to requirement of
magnetic force which is used to damp maximum vibrations is to
be done in this project.
High magnetic strength- varying L,D,windings of solenoid,V and
current through windings.
Should be flexible and rigid.
WHY IT IS NOT
FAMILIAR?
You would need some very fancy and
expensive linear solenoids that would
draw around 2,000 watts each.Not
practical, economically or electrically.
USED IN
Maybach.
Range rover.
Audi.
Mercedes.
BMW.
Volvo.
ELECTROMAGNETIC
SUSPENSION SYSTEM
ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES
Increased volume of the suspension,
• Improved dynamic
since the force density of the active
behavior, part of hydraulics is higher than for
• stability improvement, electro-magnetic actuation, i.e. system
mass and volume could be less,
• accurate force control and • relatively high current for a 12-14V
• dual operation of the system
actuator.
METHODOLOGY
When a conducting wire Wounded
around a metal and current is allowed
to pass through them, magnetic flux
is generated.
Allignment in them(induced current)
make the rod into a electromagmet

CONCLUSION
Electromagnetic suspension can be used both in AC
and DC.
Reduces annoying sounds.
Increase driver and passenger comfort.
Both natural and forced vibrations can be damped in
this type of shock absorber.
Low maintanence and no fluids required .
