    Tidal energy harnesses the power of ocean tides to generate electricity. It is created by the movement of water in the ocean producing currents as tides periodically rise and fall. There are different types of tides including diurnal, semi-diurnal, mixed, and meteorological tides. While tidal energy provides predictable, low noise pollution electricity to large areas and has a high power density, the technology is not fully developed and tidal power plants are very expensive to build and maintain as they only generate electricity for around 10 hours per day.
