INTRODUCTION The trip took place on 29th September 2019 at NBS Television a content provider and Startimes Uganda a signal broadcaster. OBJECTIVES OF THE TOUR 1. To appreciate the theoretical concepts taught in class. 2. To visually study the components of a television studio. 3. To understand how television content is produced. 4. To see how the production room, master control room and the studio room are interconnected. 5. To understand how transmission of TV signals from the content producers to the broadcasters takes place. DIGITAL VIDEO BROADCASTING PROCESS The process includes; • Signal generation at the studios • Distribution network either satellite, microwave or optical fiber. • Transmitting stations, they transmit what they receive from the distribution network. Screens/ monitors; These are used to provide the people in the studio floor with what is being broadcasted in the production control room. Lighting rigs; Lights are used for illumination and revelation of form of objects and people in the studio floor. Production Control room and Master control room
NBS Television has the master control room and
production control room in a single place. The production control room is the place in which composition of the outgoing program takes place. The master control room is the place where the on-air signal is controlled. NBS Television sends its signal to the
transmitters of broadcasters such as DSTV, ZUKU, Startimes, AZAM, SIGNET and another broadcaster that may need the NBS T.V signal.
Signal transmission at NBS television is done
through various ways which include; • Through use of optical fibers • Through use of satellite • Through microwave transmission SIGNAL FLOW ANALYSIS AT STARTIMES UGANDA The Transmitter Unit Network Management Server The combiner and waveguide feed The IDUs, MUX, Encoder Microwave dish used to receive the NBS Signal The broadcasting panel antennas CHALLENGE FACED • The Television station does not allow to expose some of the information about what they do because of commercial purposes. CONCLUSION • In all we are satisfied with all the knowledge we have gathered as it is very relevant to the theoretical knowledge already gained. • We also thank Mr. Paul Bogere for organizing the T.V visits and also the management of NBS Television for accepting us to have a study tour at their company.
