from artisans to industrialists
Alpina was born in Sopo with the manufacture of Swiss and
butter cheeses with the Swiss Max Bänziger and Walter Göggel,
who came to Sopo fleeing the Second World War and in search
of areas suitable for storing milk and dedicating themselves to
the manufacture of cheese and butter in an artisanal way.

They applied for a bank loan to acquire a plot of seven

bushels, where they built the first factory where they
produced exquisite cheeses and butter.

In 1945 they created the first Maduro Cheese in Colombia, in 10

years (1955) Alpina already processed 3000 liters of milk per day.
Today it buys 397,780,455 liters of milk per year

Today Alpina reaches 95% of the population in Colombia, a
commercial study affirms that 9 out of 10 households buy some
Alpina product, covering 72% of the dairy beverage market.

Parmalat has been in charge of feeding
Colombians with high quality healthy products
since 1995. That year the first Parmalat brand
products were launched: Pasteurized Milk and
Parmalat Long Life Milk, operations were
started in Bogotá, Cali and Medellín and later
on the Costa Atlantic.
On July 25, 1976, the first liter of milk was sold.
COLANTA started the economic history of Colombia,
when no one thought that COLANTA is the only dairy
company in the country that has been awarded the
Cross of Boyacá, the highest recognition of the
presidency of the Republic of Colombia.
60 years ago, in 1959, the doctor and health worker
Jorge Cavelier Jiménez and his son, Enrique Cavelier
Gaviria, who became the Mayor of Cajicá, founded the
company Alquería, in Rionegro, Antioquia. It is one of
the largest dairy companies in Colombia.
