DATA ANALYSIS

STEPS
TWO TYPES OF ANALYSIS
• QUANTITATIVE- numerical data
• QUALITATIVE- qualitative data (words/ essay question)

• Note: for the essay questions in survey, make a transcription for these
questions for the purpose of THEMATIC ANALYSIS.
QUANTITATIVE DATA
ANALYSIS
STEP 1. PREPARATION OF DATA
a. Classifying/Categorizing Data- classify the data that answer different
SOP questions
b. Tallying the Data- this involves frequency counting and solving
percentage
How? Present your arranged data in a tabular format.
Classification and Tallying of Data
(Example: Tabular format)
SOP 1: What is age of the respondents? F %
Question #1: Age of the respondents
16 y/o 10 20%
17 y/o 27 54%
18 y/o 13 26%
SOP2: What is the level of satisfaction…?
Question #5

SOP3: What is the major problem…?

Question #3
STEP 2 ANALYSIS OF DATA.
Example:
SOP 1: What is the age of the respondents?
AGE OF THE RESPONDENTS F %
20 Y/O 24 50%
21 Y/O 15 31%
22 Y/O 9 19%

Where F stands for FREQUENCY

How to solve percentage?

1) Get the sum of the frequency count of the data (48).
2) Get the frequency count of the first data then divide with
the sum of the whole data (24/48= .5x100= 50%)
3) Apply number 2 with the other data.
Example:
SOP2: How advantageous is E-learning to students?
Strongly Agree Agree Neutral Disagree Strongly
(5) (4) (3) (2) Disagree (1)
It enhances the 16 34 15 20 21
students critical
thinking.

How to solve the rating scale type of question? Use WEIGHTED MEAN.

WM= 5(16)+4(34)+3(15)+2(20)+1(21) =322 = 3.04 (NEUTRAL)

16+34+15+20+21 = 106
Example 3:
SOP 3: What is the average grade of the respondents in Calculus?

Scores in
Calculus
89
90
91
88
78
436/5= 87
QUALITATIVE DATA ANALYSIS
STEP 1: PREPARATION OF DATA

Prepare the transcribed data of the

interview.
STEP 2: FAMILIARIZED WITH THE DATA

• Read the data over and over again until you

get the REOCCURING PATTERN.
• The pattern will serve as the THEMES of
your data.
STEP 3: CREATE THE INITIAL LIST OF THEMES
BASED ON THE REOCCURING PATTERN IN THE DATA
STEP 4: LOCATE THE IDEAS THAT ARE
LINKED TO THE THEMES YOU HAVE
STEP 5: READ THESE IDEAS AND BE ABLE TO
FORMULATE A WELL-CRAFTED EXPLANATION OUT OF
THE THEMES HIGHLIGHTED.
STEP 6: PREPARE TO WRITE THE FINAL
REPORT (THIS IS THE ANSWER TO
YOUR SOP)
