Sedaitis QUANTITATIVE PAPER RUBRIC SBS 2000

An excellent paper will be 4-6 double-spaced pages long. Clear organization, no typos, or grammatical
mistakes.

An excellent paper will have all the following sections and information: No abstract needed!

Intro 2 paragraphs

1) Start with 1-3 sentences on why this research is interesting/important. Include the summary of your
research article you read. Be sure to put copied sentences in quotation marks!

2) State all your hypotheses, which is a statement, not a question.

Method 3 paragraphs

1)How many people in your sample? How did you collect data?

2)What type of questions did you ask? Explains how the data was gathered, how the variables were
measured. Tell me how EACH main variable was measured and what values mean for your categorical
values (ex, for gender, women were coded 1, men 0).

3) Describe Table 1 (format like my ppt example) Make sure variables have clear names! Please include
median.
Table 1: Descriptive Statistics

Minimum Maximum Mean Median Std. Deviation

Gender 1.0 2.0 1.42 1.5 .48

Age 18.0 56.0 24.46 38.0 5.92

School Dedication 1.0 5.0 3.56 2.5 1.19

Hours worked 1.0 5.0 2.96 2.5 1.27

Describe how your continuous variables (or ordinal) 1) are skewed and why, 2) the range the contains
68% of your sample

Results

Findings from testing hypothesis. Tell me that you ran a multiple regression, tell me your r squared and
what if any independent variables were significant. Put table 2 here (format like my ppt. example).
Table 2 Regression on Dedication to School
C.C.

Gender .032

Age .047*

Hours worked .149**

R2 .19*

Make sure to 1) put your dependent variable in the title and 2) that ALL the variables from Table 1 (apart
DV) are in Table 2. In words, describe your R sq. and if its significant and what that means. In words
describe which hypothesis were supported and what their Coefficient means.

Discussion/ Conclusion 2 paragraphs

The me the limitations of the study, discuss problems with how you formulated your questions, think
about better ways to measure your ideas. Did you ask the right questions in the right way? Give
examples of how you could have made your dependent variable continuous. What kind of questions
could you have asked. What would you do differently if you had to start over?

Appendix
Attach a copy of your regression output and your final survey questions to the very end of your paper.
A survey is conducted random among people using social media and questions are asked
frequently. The survey was conducted to know about the usage and quality of the internet that
which social media activity they prefer and are they satisfied with the quality they are provided
or not. The general questions asked are:

Market Research Survey- Social Media

Goal: To determine which social media channels to devote resources to.
Hypothesis: Most (>50%) of people use facebook weekly.
Hypothesis: Very few people use linkdin weekly.
Hypothesis: People are adopting snapchat faster than any other social media activity.
Questions are asked to people for about a period of one month and data is collected.

Question 1: Do you use facebook weekly?

Answer: Yes (55%)
Question 1(Revised): Please check which services you use weekly?
Answer: Facebook (checked 55%)
Linkdin (<5%)
Snapchat (<5%)
Twitter (20%)

Question 2: Are you satisfied with quality of internet provided?

Answer: Yes (15%)

Analysis:
From the above statistical data collected it can be found that more than 50% of people responded
to the survey and presented their opinion. At the point when you have a symmetrical distribution
for constant information, the mean, median, and mode are equivalent. For this situation, analysts
will in general utilize the mean since it remembers the entirety of the information in the
circulation. In any case, on the off chance that you have a slanted dissemination, the middle is
frequently the best proportion of central tendency.
At the point when you have ordinal information, the median or mode is generally the most ideal
decision. For all out information, you need to utilize the mode.
In above case median and mode gave best results as compared to mean. It can be said that using
a sample in above statistical survey saved on money and time, as a suitable sampling strategy is
used appropriate sample size selected to reduce on sampling and measurement errors, then the
sample yielded valid and reliable information.
The research was carried out by 2 persons among 30 people on the topic of social media udage
and internet quality more than 50% people responded that they use facebook over other apps, 10-
20% people told that they use snapchat frequently and less than 5% people use other social
media activities. From a sample of n = 30 people mean, median and mode are calculated which
shows that median and mode gave better result as compared to mean.
If the data is normally distributed the mean, median and mode should all be similar, If the data is
normally distributed the skewness should be close to 0, but at least in the range
of −1 to 1 (negative values indicate negative skew, positive values indicate positive skew).
