With 1 in every 4 minutes online being spent on social networking, it

becomes imperative for businesses to have a presence in the social media
circuits. The users on social networking sites are creating tons of data by
conversing, sharing images/videos, reviewing products and comparing
before buying. All this data generated by the social network users, if

Cloud technologies have enabled all technology resources to be
connected through a utility model to run effectively in a cost-optimized
manner. Now, businesses do not have to worry about huge upfront
investments (in software, hardware and storage), in-person servicing costs
and issues relating to multiple new charging models and remote servicing of
technology solutions. Best practices are put in place to not only safeguard
data, but also recover it seamlessly in the
event of a catastrophic event.

Using SMAC technologies, insurers can collect data from various sources that can
be used to predict and prevent claims.
For instance, carriers can predict and prevent potential risk by reviewing data from
multiple sources such as traffic cameras, satellite and weather reports, social
media forums, and location–based services, and relaying a cautionary message to
the customer.

Optimize the Claims Experience

Carriers can optimize the claims experience through increased process

automation across the claims "value chain," focusing on first notice of loss (FNOL),
claims appraisal and claims settlement.

FNOL: When a loss event occurs, the telematics devices in the automobiles
can initiate the FNOL process automatically, inviting the carrier to proactively
manage the claim.

Appraisal: The automated claims appraiser assignment process would ensure

the best appraisers are assigned, based on skills, location and customer
availability for claims that fit certain rules and limits, the customer can also
transmit images in real-time to the appraiser using their mobile device.

Settlement: The claims settlement process would get "smarter" and leverage
analytics to help choose the right vendor for various services.

This optimized claims experience would not only help settle claims faster and
more efficiently, it will also reduce loss adjustment expenses and the
probability of fraud.

2. ADIDAS
Adidas, a leader in the sporting goods industry implemented a
cutting-edge mobile campaign that helps provide a complete
scope for how mobile advertising assists in brick and mortar
sales. Potential customers often interact with a retailer’s mobile
website to locate a nearby store. Knowing this, Adidas created an
online-to-offline mobile campaign. By leveraging location
extensions in the search ads, users were directed to the store
locator page which helped drive in-store traffic.

Adidas recognized that in order to build an effective mobile

presence, it had to pivot customers thinking to understand how
mobile drives value beyond mobile commerce, particularly in-
store sales. This enabled Adidas to prove that mobile created a
680 percent incremental increase in ROI.( "Understanding the

5. Opportunities for IT service Industry
Business Leaders/ Business Analysts need to Work on these:

Change management of stakeholders:

Customers and employees are using SMAC technologies in their personal lives
and there is a growing expectation of a similar experience in their businesses.
However, the greatest change is needed in scenarios where executives still
believe that these technologies will not affect their businesses.

Experiences from past technology initiatives:

It is likely that the inertia regarding the SMAC initiative is driven by unsuccessful
experiences from past technology initiatives, and it is a case of “once bitten twice
shy.” While it is completely natural to put all IT initiatives in the same bucket, the
correct approach is to reflect on the learning from such programs and ensure that
they are applied to new ones.

5. Opportunities for IT service Industry
Business Leaders/ Business Analysts need to Work on these:

Define digital strategy:

Businesses can initiate the process by first undertaking a diagnostic study to

do the following:

organizations across SMAC solutions
• Assess the position and industry maturity of their competitors.
• Develop capability heat maps based on your organizations’ aspirations and
strategies.

Formulate business case:

SMAC initiatives encompass multiple stakeholders across business functions.

Therefore, it is vital that the right KPIs are set at individual and collective
levels.

5. Opportunities for IT service Industry
Business Leaders/ Business Analysts need to Work on these:
Use sense and respond approach:

Companies should incubate relevant ideas by taking calculated steps after

obtaining proof of concepts and invest extensively in technologies that work.
Digital strategies also need to be refreshed on the basis of results from
Proof of Concept(s).

Ecosystem-driven:

Evaluate your ROI by joining the SMAC initiative of an ecosystem player. In

such cases, the initial cost of developing a SMAC solution is usually borne
by ecosystem players.
