Ready for new
Learnings?
Let’s have a Recap.
Topic: Dynamics of Uniform Circular Motion
• Uniform circular motion can be described as the motion of an object in a circle at a constant speed. As an object
moves in a circle, it is constantly changing its direction. ... An object undergoing uniform circular motion is moving
with a constant speed. Nonetheless, it is accelerating due to its change in direction. It means that the motion of the projectile
along the x-direction does not affect its motion along the y-direction.

Potential Energy
Now, let’s try to solve a
sample problems.
Problem 1
What is the potential energy of the rock?
Given:
g = 9.8 m/s 2  PE= mgh
h = 100 m
m = 95kg
PE = ?

Solution:
PE = m*g*h
= (95kg) (9.8 m/s  )(100m)
2

PE = 93, 100
= 93,100 J 2/s
kg m 2
Problem 2
A boy has 1250 J of PE at the top of a guava tree with 6m high. What
his mass?
Solution:
Given:

PE = 1250 J
g = 9.8 m/s 2
h = 6m
m=?

m = 21.26kg
Problem 3
A diver at the top of 10.0 m high diving
platform has a mass of 50.0 kg. What is his
potential energy?

GIVEN:
g = 9.8 m/s 2
h = 10.0m
m = 50.0 kg
PE = ?
Solution:PE = m*g*h
= (50.0 kg)* (9.8m/s 2 )* (10.0m)
= 4900 kg m 2/s 2
PE = 4900 J

Let’s Solve this following
Problems
Sample Problem 1
An 80kg man is jogging at a velocity of 4 m/s. What is his kinetic energy?

GIVEN:
m = 80 kg
v = 4 m/s
KE = ?

Solution:

KE = 640 J
Sample Problem 2
A 1000kg car has the velocity of 17m/s. What is the car’s KE?

GIVEN:
m = 1000 kg
v = 17 m/s
KE = ?
