Questions
Take Off and Cruise – 10
Questions
5.2 Other Items to consider

• The Following are various things to consider when making

your materials for class
A Small Yet Big limitation
A Small Yet Big limitation

● On the Slides….we need to be size conscious…so those

who only can view shows on smart phone can still see the
text
● This does not apply to student book.
● Hence, the material must mirror one another in content
but the appearance must be different.
● We use book references on the slides
to overcome this Look at page 23, AC 15
in your book
Other things

● Margins
○ Power points - an inch or so
○ Student Book, follow normal margins as much
as possible
○ Never go beyond the edge in power point
○ Never go to the edge of Student Book
Fonts – Power Point

● Follow Fonts in the Master

● Headers – 40 range
● Most Text – 30 range
● Lowest – 28 – never go below
Fonts – Book

● Follow Fonts in the Master

● Headers – 16
● Most Text – 14
● Lowest – 12
Be careful with Font Colouring

● Can you read this?

● I bet you can’t.
● I bet you won’t.
● Now ….I’m sure you can read this.
Colour Choices in Slides
● While some freedom is given, try to
observe the following:
● Black for standard text
● Dark green and dark blue for answers
● Red for Error Correction
Don’t do this please…

● While it’s nice to use our various

stylings to make your text stand out if
you use all of them all of the time than
you can’t use them to make anything
stand out. This is really true in the
student book. Understood?
Avoid Copy/Pasting as Image of Text
Images – How to Get Them
● Scour the internet
● Key word ‘clip art’ , sketch
● Avoid famous people/cartoons
● Never use pics covered with watermarks
● Avoid anything sensitive or provocative e.g. pork,
a female dog is called a …
● Some Malaysian content is good…but this may be
used international, so keep it international too!
About Audio

● Only goes in Instructional Class slides

● Insert it into the slide where the activity is blank and the
students can see the question as they listen
● Where to get audio files:
○ Resource Directory on Google Drive
○ Other Erican Syllabuses
○ Make a script!
Audio Doug is Here

● If you are using another activity, and you need help to convert,
let me know.
● I’m here to help! I can help with editing AND recording.
● If possible, type a script out and we’ll arrange recording
● If you provide, the audio must in mp3 format
● You need to insert the audio icon into the power point, so ask if
you don’t know how.
Slide Layout

● Margins
● Pictures vs Words – Words must win
● Layout is important
● Use Tables for neat conversations, etc.
● Standardisation – Follow layout and slide
background standards AND Cover Pages
Other Limitation #1

● Do Not use any special animation on the slides

● The programme they use to project on the screen behind
Eric does not recognise PP animation.
● Also version incompatibilities
● For this reason, you must use manual animation of
answers
● An example will be shown on the next few slides
About the Student Book

● SPACE FOR ANSWERS!!!!!! Student Empathy

● Especially true for Young Learners
● Don't just copy and paste from slideshow. You MUST
redo layout.
● These are printed in black and white, NO colour!
● Content is the same, layout may be different.
● How do we let students know they are on right activity
then?
○ Activity Reference - ‘Refer to page 17
