IF CONDITIONAL

What?
• Conditional sentences are sentences expressing
factual implications, or hypothetical situations
and their consequences. They are so called
because the validity of the main clause of the
sentence is conditional on the existence of
certain circumstances, which may be expressed
in a dependent clause or may be understood
from the context.
• Jika hari ini tidak hujan, saya akan pergi jalan-jalan

• Saya akan membeli mobil baru jika uang saya banyak

Type I => if I have enough money, I will buy a new car

Type II => if I had enough money, I would buy a new car

Type III => if I had had enough money, I would have bought a
new car
• Jika saya cantik, saya akan menjadi artis

Type I => if I am beautiful, I will be an artist

Type II => if I were beautiful, I would be an artist

Type III => if I had been beautiful, I would have been an artist

If I had eaten, I would not have been hungry

Have + been = jika tidak punya kata kerja

Have + V3

Saya akan mendapatkan beasiswa jika saya pintar

If I had been smart, I would have got scholarship
Jika dia memiliki suara yang bagus, dia akan menjadi penyanyi
terkenal
She would have been a famous singer if she had had a good
voice
Has dan had merupakan turunan dari have.
Namun, penggunaan have selalu dipasangkan dengan I, we,
you,they, dan subjek lainya yang jamak.
Sedangkan has digunakan untuk subjek seperti she, he, it, dan
subjek lainnya yang tunggal.
Khusus untuk had merupakan bentuk past (V2) dan past
participle (V3) dari have.
EXERCISE
• If I am offered the job, I think I (take) will take it.

• I’m sure Tom will lend you some money. I would be very
surprised if he (refuse) refused.

• Many people would be out of the work if that factory (close)

were closed down.
• Would George be angry if I (take) took his bicycle without
