NUTRITION FACTS
LABELS
Objectives:

Recognize nutrition facts label as

provide of detailed information
about food’s nutrient content.
Food Labels

● The nutrition facts label is required by the Food and Drug

Administration (FDA) on most packaged foods and beverages.

● It provides detailed information about food’s nutrient content

such as the amount of fat, sugar, sodium and fiber.

● Knowing how to read food labels is especially important if you

have health conditions, such as high blood pressure or high
cholesterol, and need to follow a special diet. It also makes it
easier to compare similar foods to see which is healthier.
1.What are the nutrients to limit based
on nutrition label.

2. How much calorie would you get in

one serving?

3. What are the beneficial nutrients you

can get from the food?

OBJECTIVE:

2022
ABOUT DNA DAY
Recognize Nucleic Acids as
one of the categories of
biomolecules.
Spot the difference!
Guide Questions:

• What is the picture all about?

• What do you think is the possible reason why their

physical characteristic is different?
What is Nucleic Acid?
- The fourth class of organic molecules. This class
involves the genetic materials, DNA and RNA.

- Are large biomolecules that play essential roles in all

cells and viruses. A major function of nucleic acids
involves the storage and expression of genomic
information.
Guide Questions:
1. DNA stands for?
2. What is the name of the sugar of DNA?
3. What are the bases of DNA?

ABOUT DNA DAY
deoxyribonucleic acid

DNA is the blueprint of life because it contains

instructions on how to make proteins in the body.

Proteins
- are organic molecule that forms muscles, transport O2
(hemoglobin) and acts as hormones and enzymes.

Amino Acid
- the building blocks of protein.

Proteins are made up of amino acid combined through a dehydration

link called peptide bond.

There are 20 different kinds of amino acids.

5 parts of Amino Acid

1. Central carbon atom

2. Carboxyl group ( - COOH)
3. Amino group ( - NH2)
4. Hydrogen
5. “ R “ Groups
- determines the shape and
function of protein.
- it varies from one amino acid to
another.
Enzyme
- known as biological catalyst.

- speed up biochemical reactions

without themselves being used in the
process.

- they act on a certain molecules

called substrate.

Compared to a lock and key. The lock will

not open unless you use the right key.
Lactase
- this enzyme work as it breaks down
the sugar lactose into glucose and
galactose.
