ATMOSPHERE By: Ella Joy A. Yee OBJECTIVES At the end of the lesson, the learners shall be able to :
1 identify and describe the features of the 5 layers of the
atmosphere;
.2. explain the basis for the division of the layers of atmosphere;
3. discuss the composition of atmosphere; and
4. relate the importance of atmosphere to human kind.
GROUP 1 Direction: Discuss the gas composition of the earth’s atmosphere Use the pie graph and answer the guide questions. GROUP 2 Direction: Label the 5 layers of the atmosphere and identify the things commonly found in each layer. Distinguish its distance (km) from the earth’s surface. GROUP 3 Direction:Graph the estimated temperatures of each layers of the atmosphere and discuss the temperature variations. RUBRIC FOR GROUP PRESENTATION Content- offers current information on the topic 40 % chosen thoroughly covers each aspect of the question. Presentation – The student makes a genuine 35 % effort to present, not just read the material.
Teamwork – Each member of the group is 25%
actively and effectively participating towards a specific goal. Total 100% TROPOSPHERE • The first layer above the surface • It’s altitude ranges from (0-16 km). • Weather occurs in this layer. • As altitude increases, temperature decreases. STRATOSPHE RE MESOSPHERE THERMOSPHER E • The thermosphere is a layer with auroras. • It is also where the space shuttle orbits. • Starts at about 80 km high and continues to 640 km EXOSPHERE APPLICATION Direction: Enumerate and discuss the negative effects of human activities on our Atmosphere. Human Activities Negative Effects When humans burn coal, oil and gas (fossil fuels) to generate electricity or drive our cars.
Too much use of fertilizers which contains
nitrous oxide. Refrigeration agents and other industrial processes emits Halocarbons (CFC)
People cut too many trees for lumber to make
papers and build houses. EVALUATION A. Direction: Write true if the statement is true. If the statement is false, change the underlined term to make the statement true. ____________________ 1. The atmosphere is made up of four main layers. ____________________ 2. The place where the troposphere stops getting colder is called the ionosphere. ____________________ 3. Ozone is a form of oxygen. ____________________ 4. The higher you go in the ozone layer, the colder it gets. ____________________ 5. Ozone stops most of the ultraviolet light from the Sun. ____________________ 6. The stratosphere is the closest layer to Earth’s surface. ____________________ 7. The ionosphere is the layer of the atmosphere that means “middle layer.” EVALUATION B. Direction: Identify what layer of the atmosphere is described by each characteristic listed in each number. (Troposphere, Stratosphere, Mesosphere, Thermosphere, Exosphere)
1. Contains a layer of ozone
2. Where weather takes place 3. Made up of ions 4. Where airplanes travel 5. Located closest to Earth 6. Where most water vapor is found 7. Allows radio signals to be sent across Earth 8. Where air temperature hardly change
ASSIGNMENT • Write a letter to your 20 year old self. Describe our planet today and the effects of global warming in your daily life. 2, Write your desire to make a difference. Seal your letters in a short envelope
