BPA 3B

SCHEDULE: MONDAY 1:00-

4:00PM

INSTRUCTOR: Mr. Roel Jr. Apas

OBJECTIVES

– to know what are scope and limitation in writing thesis or

research
– to know what is definition of terms and its purpose
– to know how to create a scope and limitation
– to know how to create definition of terms
SCOPE

– identifying the scope is a priority to complete when

conducting research
– It answers the six following questions:

W W W W H
H
H H
A
E
E H O
R
T E N O W
LIMITATION

– study’s flaw or shortcomings

– Include limitations in the research to clarify the findings
– Common limitations on researchers/studies:
1. Limited access to project respondents
2. Time constraints
3. Personal conflicts and biases
SCOPE
– Information that should be present when indicating your scope:
 General purpose of the study
 Population or sample you are studying
 Duration or sample you are studying
 Duration of the study
 Topics or theories you will discuss
 Geographical location covered in the study
EXAMPLE: SCOPE AND
LIMITATION
This study focused on the use of math talk as an inquiry-based strategy in
teaching Grade 7 English in Camarin High School. The study was
conducted during the school year 2018-2019. the subjects were two selected
sections of grade 7 in Camarin High School. Two groups of the subjects
were studied. They were first non-math talk and math talk group.
The research focused on the result of the students’ pretest and post-test,
both of the non-math talk and math talk group which became the basis of
the t-test.
The research did not include other subjects since the materials are not
enough during surveys.
EXAMPLE: SCOPE AND
LIMITATION
This study focused on the struggles of cyber-bullied grade 11
HUMSS students. The participants were bona fide grade 11
HUMSS learners of a particular private school in Digos City;
outside the place was excluded. This study was limited to
the grade 11 HUMSS students who were interviewed about
the case. The participants were in the age ranges from 16 to
18. students who belonged to the other division of academic
strand like STEM and ABM, also the TECH VOC strand that
are grade 11 and 12, were not included.
DEFINITION OF TERMS

– Define a special term in the study

– Can be found in the last part of chapter 1
– Can be compared to glossary
TYPES OF DEFINITION OF
TERMS
– Conceptual meaning – based on published materials
– Operational meaning – how they (researchers) used the
terms
GUIDELINES IN DEFINING
TERMS
1. Only terms, words, phrases that are unique or essential
to your study are define.
2. It should be defined operationally.
3. Researchers may create own definition from the
characteristics of the term.
4. Definition from published materials are conceptual
GUIDELINES IN DEFINING
TERMS
5. Brief, on point as possible
6. Acronyms should be spelled out completely especially if its uncommon
EXAMPLE: DEFINITION
OF TERMS
To aid comprehension and facilitate better understanding of provided
terms used in the study, the following words are defined properly:
Digital Prey – they are somewhat a human subject of an attack, or
ridicule by another person through media. They are the ones being
cyber-bullied.
Struggles – these are forceful or violent effort to get free of restraint
or constriction. These are the hindrances experience by cyber-bullied
grade 11 HUMSS students.
