In this lesson, I used existentialism

as the basis for planning and
designing my activities. The
activities I made are self-paced,
self-directed, and include a great
deal of individual contact with me
as their teacher. This helped me to
relate to my learners openly and
o
honestly.

Essentialism is an educational philosophy that tries
to instill to all students with the most essential or basic
academic knowledge and skills and character
development. In essentialist, teaching philosophy,
Students are required to master a set body of information
and basic techniques for their grade level before they are
promoted to the next higher grade. The teacher serves as
an intellectual and moral role model for the students.

For me, our Philippine education curriculum

subscribed to being essentialist by implementing the k-
to-12 curriculum wherein learners are being taught from
basic skills that gradually moves toward more complex
skills and knowledge.
o

In this lesson plan,, I applied a learner-centered

teaching philosophy which is essentialism. In this lesson,
I explained my lesson through scaffolding or through
step-by-step process. I organized and sequenced a series
of appropriate learning activities for each part of my
lesson plan. In my lesson, my learners learned the basic
and essential math skills.

For me as an essential teacher, these skills are very

essential that will help them in their independent living.

To show that I have applied the

personal philosophy of teaching
that is learner centered, I have
attached the copy of my lesson plan
where I have indicated annotation
in the last page of my lesson plan
and high lightened the part of my
lesson plan. I have always been a
believer of constructivism.
o
This
example of lesson plan that I have
made shows that I was able to
apply this philosophy in my
teaching in all their areas of lesson
planning, example, from the
learning objective, instructional
activities and assessments as
mentioned in the first annotations.

lesson through open discussion and
acquired by themselves the needed

Constructivism is an important learning theory that

teachers use to help their pupils learn. It is based on the
idea that pupils actively construct or make their own
knowledge and that reality is determined by their
experiences as learners. Basically, learners use their
previous knowledge as a foundation and build on it with
new things that they learn. In constructivism, knowledge
is constructed, pupils learn to learn as they learn, learning
is an active process, a social activity and is contextual.
In my lesson plan, Finding the Area of A
Triangle, constructivism is the theory because it involves
cognitive and social learning.
o Pupils learn the lesson by
connecting it to the previous lessons enabling the pupils
to make modifications. Social learning is connected to
my lesson because of the added element of societal and
peer influence which is the group activity.
Constructivism is present in teaching
mathematics because it allows the pupils to deepen their
knowledge beyond rote memorization and develop
meaningful context to comprehend the content.
Constructivism promotes social and communication
skills creating a classroom environment that emphasizes
collaboration and exchange of ideas.
