THERE ARE ONLY A FEW ABSOLUTES IN OB
 There are few, if any, simple and universal principles that explain organizational behavior.

 Contingency variables—situational factors are variables that moderate the relationship between the independent
and dependent variables.

 Situational factors that make the main relationship between two variables change—e.g., the relationship may hold
for one condition but not another.

CHALLENGES & OPPORTUNITIES
1. RESPONDING TO ECONOMIC PRESSURE

 Difficult economic times highlight the difference between a

good and bad management.

 In good times a manager should understand how to reward,

satisfy and retain employees etc.

 In bad times managers should understand how to deal with

issues of stress, decision making in scarcity, coping
mechanism etc.

2. RESPONDING TO GLOBALIZATION

 Increased foreign assignments

 Working with people from different cultures.

 Overseeing movement of jobs to countries with low-cost

labour.

3. MANAGING WORKFORCE DIVERSITY

 Acknowledging differences between men & women, racial

groups, ethnic groups, age groups, physical and
psychological abilities, sexual orientation etc.

 How to create awareness about these differences.

 How to leverage these differences so that the challenges can

be transformed into opportunities.

4. IMPROVING CUSTOMER SERVICE

 Service jobs have substantial interaction with organisation’s

customers. Since customers are the profit generators, this
interaction becomes very crucial.

 OB can help managers know how attitude and behaviour

are associated with customer satisfaction.

5. IMPROVING PEOPLE SKILLS

 Improve listening skills

 Creating effective teams

6. STIMULATING INNOVATION & CHANGE

 In this dynamic world, its very important for the

organisations to be flexible, continuously improve quality
and beat competition with constant innovation.

 Employees play a very important role is supporting

change/opposing change.

7. COMPING WITH “TEMPORARINESS”

 Highly dynamic business environment means more

temporary elements.

 OB helps better understand change and deal with these

temporary elements, overcome resistance and create an
organisational culture that thrives on change.

8. WORKING IN NETWORKED
ORGANISATION

 Networked organisation means more communication and

work in diverse teams.

 Work from home jobs has highlighted the importance of

this even more.

 Motivating and leading people and making collaborative

decisions in such an organisation requires very different
techniques.

9. HELPING EMPLOYEES BALANCE WORK-
LIFE CONFLICT

 Work from home culture, flexible working hour and multi-

continental teams offer challenges like never before.

10. CREATING A POSITIVE WORK ENVIRONMENT

 Focus on the strength of the people rather than dwelling on

the weaknesses

MPOB BY: MRS, SWATI BAGADIA

11. IMPROVING ETHICAL BEHAVIOUR
 Ethical dilemmas and ethical choices are becoming
complex.

 Employees might cut corner to get things done.

 Managers must create an ethically healthy climate for their

employees, where they can work productively without
ambiguity.
