Vectors
A vector is a quantity usually represented by a straight line
with an arrowhead at one end to show the direction of the
quantity.

Method
A= 4 units due East and B= 3 units NE (where ꝋ = 45 °). Find the
magnitude and direction of their resultant, R.

R = A + B
R = 4 units + 3 units
B = 3 units, NE R = 7 units

Problem 4 :
For the vectors shown in the diagram, determine a) resultant, b) C – D ,
c) D-A-B
C= 30 units D = 25 units

B = 20 units A= 50 units

a) Resultant R=A+B+C+D
R = (50 units) + (-20 units) + (-30 units) + (25 units) R = 25 units, East
b) C- D = (-30 units) – (25 units) = - 55 units C - D = 55 units, West

c) D-A-B = (25 units) – (50 units) – (-20 units) = -5 D – A – B = 5 units, West
