What is
Leadership?
Leadership is the ability of an
individuals to influence and
guide followers or other
members of an organization.
What is a leadership style?
 Refers to a leader’s method,
characteristics and behaviors when
directing, motivating and managing their
teams.
 Also the determining factor in how leaders
develop their strategy, implement plans
and respond to changes, while managing
the expectations of stakeholders and the
well being of a team.

Transformational Leadership
Is a leadership style that places emphasis on change and
transformation.
Leaders who adopt this approach strive to inspire their
followers and achieve more than they ever thought possible
by tapping into their individual potential.
Key Characteristics of Transformational Leadership

Delegative Leadership
Often referred ta as “laisez-faire”.
Focuses on delegating initiative to team
members. This is generally known as one of
the least intrusive forms of leadership, this
literally translates to “ let them do”. This is
therefore considered a very hand- off
leadership style.

Authoritative Leadership
Authoritative leaders are often referred to a
visionary. Leaders who adopt this style consider
themselves mentors to their followers.
Places more emphases on a “follow me” approach.
Leaders who display authoritative traits tend to
motivate and inspire those around them. They also
provide guidance, feedback and motivation to their
teams.
Transactional Leadership
Often referred to as managerial leadership.
Relies on rewards and punishments.
Has a clear emphases on structure,
assuming individuals may not possess the
motivation needed to complete their tasks.
Participative Leadership
Sometimes referred to as democratic leadership.
Encouraging leaders to listen to their employees
and involve them in decision-making process.
Requires leaders to be inclusive , utilize good
communication skills and crucially, be able to
share power/ responsibility.
Leadership Identity
Leadership identity is the cumulative
confidence in one’s ability to intentionally
engage with others to accomplish group
objectives and be perceived congruently by
others in that context. A sense of self as one
who believes that groups are comprised of
interdependent members who do leadership
together.
