Psychoanalysis

disorders.

Types of anxiety

DEFENCE MECHANISM
Is an unconscious psychological operation
that functions to protect a person from
anxiety-producing thoughts and feelings
related to internal conflicts and outer
REPRESSION
 Subconsciously blocking ideas or impulses that
are undesirable.
DENIAL
Denial is a type of defense mechanism that
involves ignoring the reality of a situation to
avoid anxiety.
Reaction Formation
 A defense mechanism in which a person
unconsciously replaces an unwanted or anxiety-
provoking impulse with its opposite, often
expressed in an exaggerated or showy way.
Sublimation
 Is a mature type of defense mechanism, in which
socially unacceptable impulses or idealizations
are transformed into socially acceptable actions
or behavior, possibly resulting in a long-term
conversion of the initial impulse.

• Psychoanalysis – is based on the concept of unconscious mental representations
that are built up from childhood.

• The Interaction of Id, Ego, and Superego are always dynamic it influences a
persons overall personality and behavior.

• We use Defense mechanism to cope with difficult feelings, thoughts or conflicts


that the ego have a hard time resolving.
