-Gender Pay Gap is the difference in average gross hourly earnings between men and women.
-According to the recent report of UN WOMEN, Women earn only 77 cents for every dollar earned by men.
- On the recent Equal Pay Day in US, an analytical report was published stating-
For every dollar, a White man makes:
Asian women make 85 cents, White Women make 79 cents, American Indian/Alaskan Native
women make 60 cents and Hispanic or Latino women make 55 cents.
- In India, the women earns 19% less than women, according to the Monster Salary Index(MSI).
- According to ILO, women are paid on an average 20% less than men across the world.
- According to Gender Gap Report 2021, women still earn around 37% less than women in similar roles.
CAUSES OF GENDER PAY GAP:
1. PATRIARCHY: PRIMARY NARRATIVE OF SOCIAL JUSTICE WARRIORS-
-Deep seated male dominance,
-men gained positions of power before women,
-Perpetual discrimination and regulation of money earned by women.
2. Women chose to work in low- paid roles and sectors.
Based on the Report, two arguments can be made:
i- Men tend to take up such high paying jobs because of the patriarchal incumbency to earn more and be
the bread winner of the family.
ii- There are inherent biological and psychological differences between men and women which leads to
men taking those jobs which happen to be highly paid.
3. Women are paid less than men for the same role.
