EQUIPMENT
Sewing Equipment are the
different tools used on
clothing construction.
MEASURING TOOLS
AND SHAPING TOOLS
•L-SQUARE
- divides the garment
into the desired
measurement. It perfect
squares and is useful in
making straight lines
and numbers.

- is used in
connecting or
shaping curve
points.

- Is used to shape the depth of the
neck hole and armhole of the
pattern.
 RULER
- aids in connecting line. They
are graduated inches and
centimeter which are commonly
made of either wood or plastic.

MEASURE
-Is a device used
in taking body
measurement.
C U T T I N G TO O L S
Are instruments that serve well if
properly maintained. The joints are oiled
once in a while for better use,
• SHEARS
- have the
length of eight
(8) to nine (9)
inches. They are
sharp metals
used for cutting.
• SCISSORS
- are shorter than
shears, also used
for shaping short
curves, trimming
and cutting
buttonholes.
• PINKING SHEARS
- give an attractive zigzag cut
edge to the fabrics that do not
ravel.

SCISSORS
- are the scissors with short
blades. They are used for ripping of
stitches and seams.
• TRIMMING
SCISSORS

- Are used for cutting or


trimming of threads.
• RIPPER
- Is a handy
wire rod with a
hook in one
end which is
used to remove
seams and
stitches.
MARKING TOOLS

- Is used to transfer the marks
from the pattern to the fabrics.
• PENCIL WITH
ERASER
- Is helpful in marking pattern
in fabrics with light colors as
well as in drafting of patterns.
• TRACING WHEEL
- Is used to transfer seam lines,
dark lines and seam allowances.

- functions like a carbon paper.


Tracing paper are categorized
into black and white depending
upon the color to be traced.
• THREAD
- when basting, silk threads are
more appropriate. Contrasting
colors should be used for easy
location and removal if
necessary.
• PINS
- are used to hold pieces of
materials together. Dressmaker’s
pins are used for all fabrics.
