Active Transport

Is an energy requiring process where

molecules move from low conc. to high conc.
against gradient.
Sodium-Potassium Pump
Endocytosis
 Is the process by which cells ingest external fluids, macromolecules and
other cells into a pouch which then pinches off from the cell membrane to
become a vesicle which is then digested by lysosomal enzymes.
 Types of endocytosis depending on the materials being ingested are:
1) Pinocytosis.
2) Phagocytosis.
1) Pinocytosis: involves the transport of fluids.

2) Phagocytosis: involves the transport of large particles

or whole cells. Ex: Phagocytes that ingest bacteria and
viruses in humans.
Exocytosis
 Is the process by which a substance is released from the cell
through a vesicle.
 Cells use exocytosis to release large molecules as proteins and
toxins.
 It is the reverse of Endocytosis.
