CHAPTER I
A. Background of study
Education has an important role in the development of a
person, in accordance with Law No. 20 of 2003 which states
the education has religious spiritual strength, self-control,
intelligence, noble character, and skills needed to be able to
live in a society with a conscious and planned society.
The government declared coved-19 a national disaster in

march 2002. the complexity handling this outbreak has made
world leaders implement very strict policies to break to
chain of the spread of covid-19. social distancing is a tough
policy that must be taken to prevent the spread of covid-19.
the social distancing policy has a fatal impact on the wheels
of human life, and the education sector is also affected by
this policy.
The learning process in schools is the best public policy
tools as an effort to increase knowledge and abilities. In
addition, many student think that school is a very fun
activity, they can interact with each other. Schools can
improve students social skills and social class awareness.
Overall, the school is a medium of interaction between

students and teachers to improve intelligence skill and a
sense of compassion between them. However , now activity
called school have suddenly stopped due to the covid-19
pandemic. Student are forced to follow a distancing
learning system (PJJ) facilities by the internet through
their devices.
Learning system by integrating internet connection with teaching and learning
process. This process is known as online learning system or virtual learning
system (Bentley, Selassie,& shegunshi, 2012). Online learning is still considered a
breaktroght or new paradigm in teaching and learning activity where in the
process of a teaching and learning activities because teacher and student do not
need to be present in class.
The only rely on an internet connection to carry

out the learning process and the process can be done
remotely. Because of the convenience and
practicality of virtual or online learning system, it’s
not supprising that many institution use online
learning.
However with the sudden arrival of the covid-19 pandemic, the
education sector in Indonesia needs to follow this path if it can
help school conditions in an emergency. School need to force
themselves to use online methods. However, the use of
technology is not without problems, there are many types of
problem s that hinder the effectiveness of online learning.
 Technology support devices are clearly expensive. The

welfare of teacher and student means that they are not
completely limited in enjoying the information technology
facilities and infrastructure that are badly needed by the
covid-19 disaster.
 The internet network is still not evenly distributed

throughout the country. Even if there is an internet
network, the condition is still not able to cover online
media
 Cost is also an obstacle because aspect of the welfare of

teachers and student are still far from expectations.
B. Research Question

E. Scope of study
This research was conducted on student of SMPN 29 Batam. Researchers took data from
students who studied through whatsapp in the learnin process during July-septemer 2021

difficulty • Paying attention to the epistemological challenges that students may face in engaging with a
subject demonstrates the need to broaden conception of pendagogic content knowledge.

procedure for solving it is not clear.

CHAPTER II
A. Difficult of theory
Learning difficulties are a condition that causes students to be unable to learn as they should
(Dalyono, 1997:229). According to Sabri (1995: 88) learning difficulties are the difficulty of
students in receiving or absorbing lessons in school.
There are several cases of learning difficulties, as stated by Abin Syamsudin M, namely:
1. Cases of difficulties with the background of lack of motivation and interest in learning.
2. Cases of difficulties with negative attitudes towards teachers, lessons, and learning situations.
3. Cases of difficulties with the background of wrong study habits.
4. The case of difficulties with the background of the incompatibility between the objective
conditions of his personal diversity with the objective conditions of his impulses and his
environment.
