USE OF ASH OBTAINED

Ash obtained from ash handling plant is utilized for various

purposes like
 Portland cement
 Waste stabilization and solidification
 Raw feed for cement clinkers
 Stabilization of soft soils
 Mineral filler in asphaltic concrete.
 For preparation of Bricks.
 Filling of Open cast coal mines
 Cosmetic & paint industries (cenosphere)

Other applications include cellular concrete, roofing tiles, paints, metal castings,
filler in wood and plastic products.
COMPONENTS OF ASH
PLANT
BOTTOM ASH SYSTEM
 BOTTOM ASH HOPPER
 CLINKER GRINDER
 HYDROEJECTOR
 OVERFLOW TANK
 BOTTOM ASH OVERFLOW PUMPS
BOTTOM ASH HOPPER

SEAL TROUGH
Economizer & APH HOPPER Ash Handling System

There are 4 nos. of Eco hopper & 8 nos of APH Hopper for each
boiler.
Coarse ash will be continuously evacuated through
Flushing apparatus system where it will be mixed with water & fed to
ASH SLURRY SUMP PIT through trench.
Eco booster water pump ( 85m3/hr, 6.5kg/cm2) will meet water re-
quirement of flushing apparatus for all 4nos of Eco hoppers & seal
box. It is located at bottom Ash Hopper area. Water requirement
of APH hopper & associated trench of ECO & APH fulfill by FAHP
pump
Bottom Ash Overflow System

Continuous water will be fed in the bottom ash hopper

for the purpose of maintaining the overflow water temp
below 60Deg C.
Make-up will result in continuous overflow of water,
which will be led in to overflow weir-box/seal trough.
Overflow weir box will maintain sealing between furnace
& the atmosphere. From overflow sump, Overflow will be
transferred to Ash Slurry Sump through BAOF Pumps. For
each unit 2 nos BAOF Pump provided. One will be working
&one will be standby for transporting bottom ash overflow
water to Ash Slurry Sump.

FLY ASH EXTRACTION SYSTEM

WET ASH DRY ASH

SYSTEM SYSTEM
 TRANSPORT AIR COMPRESSOR
 FLY ASH HIGH PRESSURE  BAG FILTER
(2 working for both unit)  BUFFER HOPPER
 WETTING HEAD UNIT  AIR LOCK TANK
 COLLECTOR TANK  ROTARY SEGREGATING VALVE
 AIR WASHER  EQUALISER VALVE
 SEAL BOX  SILO
 PULSE JET
 VENT FAN
Fly Ash Extraction (Dry Mode)
Fly ash wetting facilities are bypassed through set of valves.
A bag filter cum buffer hopper is used to separate ash from
air.
Ash ladden air under vacuum passes through bag filter unit,
wherein the ash particles deposit on the bag filter and clean
air is sucked in by vacuum pump. The bag filter is of pneu-
matic pulse jet type. High pressure air pulse is used to dis-
lodge the fly ash from bags to the buffer hopper provided
below BAG FILTERS.
DRY FLY ASH DISPOSAL
Steps involved
 System is taken in Dry mode.
 Dry mode valve opens and wet mode valve closes.
 Conveying line line-up is checked and Conveying compressor is
Started.
 Initial conveying line pressure is checked it should not be more than
0.2 kg/cm2.
 Feeder sequence and Pulse jetting is started.
 Vacuum pumps are started, shut off vacuums minimum 350mm hg, line vacuum
should be upto 200 mmhg for healthy ash evacuation system and ESP is taken in
service.
