• In Once through (Drum less) boiler : Necessary

• Sub critical (with drum): Recommended

• Low Pressure boiler : Not required

REQUIREMENT OF CPU
• In once through only one way to reduce TDS

• During Condenser tube failure (leakage),

Prevents the boiler system

• In sub Critical units, TDS can be reduced by blow

REQUIREMENT
down but in super criticalOFno blow down facility
above 30% Load (Once through)
CPU….
• CPU Works on the same principle as Mixed
Bed of DM Plant.

• The Reactions are shown in the next

slide.

PRINCIPLE
The Differences which makes the performance of the
CPU ion exchange more difficultare

1. Higher Flow rate

2. Quality of treated water required

3. The higher temperature condition

IMPORTANCE OF
RESIN TRAPS
• Resin Traps are very important at the time of any
strainer failure of MB.

• DP across Trap will indicate any leakage of

resin.

• Max allowable DP<2.1Kg/cm2.

• Prevents any ingress of Resin in the system

MAIN STEPS OF
REGENERATION
 Transferring exhausted Resin to Separation/ Anion
Regeneration Vessel

 Resin Separation

 Transferring Cation resin into Cation Regeneration vessel

 Regeneration of Individual resin in its respective vessel

 Mixing of both resin

 Transferring regenerated resin to Mixed Bed

IRONING FILTERS)
(Micron)
 Each unit is provided with 2x50% capacity of pre filters.

 When Fe < 2000~3000 μg/L of condensate polishing system

in the initial start up period of unit, only pre filters are
started to rapidly reduce the content of iron suspended
matter to reduce start up time.

 The pre filters having 100% and 50% bypass system.

PRE FILTERS ….
 When DP>0.12MPa, 100% bypass is opened automatically and
the inlet and outlet valves of pre filter are closed.

 In case a certain pre filter has excessively high pressure drop

then 50% bypass is automatically opened and the failed filter
becomes out of service.

 When DP is high then we will have to go for PF back wash

followed by compressed air scouring.

PRE FILTERS ….
 When back wash is completed, the filter will be taken in
service again.
• Make sure that MB Bypass valve or CPU bypass is open.

• PFs Vessel is Flushed and backwashed properly.

• PFs are filled completely with DM water.

• Ensure all instruments are in line and working properly.
