OPENING PRAYER

Our Father, Who art in Heaven,

hallowed be Thy name; Thy Kingdom
come, Thy will be done on earth as it is
in Heaven. Give us this day our daily
bread; and forgive us our trespasses as
we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation, but
deliver us from evil. Amen.

SCIENCE 4
OBJECTIVES:
❑ Describe the main function of the major organs
(brain, heart, lungs, and liver); and
❑ Communicate that the major organs work
together to make the body function properly

MAJOR INTERNAL
ORGANS

SCIENCE 4
The Brain!
Touch the top of your head. It is hard because of the skull.
Inside the skull is your brain. Since the brain performs very
essential functions, it is protected by the skull from physical
injuries and also protected by the linings called
meninges.

SCIENCE 4
The Brain!
The brain is a three-pound organ that serves as headquarters
for your body. Without it, you wouldn’t be able to process
information, move your
limbs, or even breathe. So please, take good care of it.

SCIENCE 4
The Brain!
The three major parts of the brain are the cerebrum,
cerebellum and the medulla oblongata.
What are their functions? Let’s watch this!

BRAIN

ABOUT THE BRAIN

• responsible for major actions

performed by the body
• control center of the body
• protected by the skull
• Occipital, Frontal, Parietal,
and Temporal lobes
(Medulla Oblongata)

SCIENCE 4
4 LOBES OF THE
CEREBRUM
• OCCIPITAL LOBE - responsible
for vision
• FRONTAL LOBE - responsible for
thinking (reasoning, planning,
problem solving, emotions, speech,
and movement)
• PARIETAL LOBE - responsible
for touch, pain, temperature, and
pressure
• TEMPORAL LOBE - responsible
for hearing and memory SCIENCE 4
The Heart!
The heart is a muscular organ about the size of a fist, located
just behind and slightly left of the breastbone. The heart
pumps blood through the network of arteries and veins called
the cardiovascular system.

SCIENCE 4
The Heart!
The arteries carry oxygen-rich blood away from the heart to
all of the body's tissues. Then, the veins take the blood back to
the heart; this blood lacks oxygen (oxygen-poor) and is rich in
waste products that are to be excreted or removed from the
body.
