Elements Of Design

• Any Design in the world can be broken down into elements.

• Elements serves as a foundation for the development of all textile and clothing products.
The elements of design serve as a foundation for the
development and creation of all textiles and clothing
products.

Throughout history artisans and designers have utilized the


elements of design in a variety of ways to create a certain
aesthetic.
The Elements are the tools that designers use.
The Elements are the tools that designers use.
The Principles are what designers do with those
tools.
The discipline of learning the power of elements and
formatting them with the principle of design is the
responsibility of a Fashion Designer.
The Six elements of Design

• Line.
• Shape.
• Form.
• Colour.
• Texture.
• Prints.
Language of Visual arts.

Nothing can exist without these ingredients.


Elements of Design

Lines

A line is a Path made by a moving Point through space . It is one


dimensional.
It can vary in width, length and direction.
It is used as a structure or decorative element.

Lines are the greatest devices of fashion designers.

Lines within a garment are created by darts seams and decorative


details.

Lines

Each kind of line produces its own special effect.


Straight line's and shapes denote force and strength and have a
masculine quality; Curved lines are the lines of nature, they are
gracefully and gives a feminine effect.

Since lines create illusion of height and width, they can be used to
one's requirement to tone down or exaggerate a particular figure type.

Shape & Forms
• Shapes are two dimensional. Height And length.
• Geometric shapes and organic shapes.
• Circle is a shape .

• Forms are three dimensional. Height, width and depth.


• Human Body is a form.
• The shapes and forms is called as
silheoutte.
• It can be outer line or
overall shape.
Texture

Texture describes the surface quality of an object.

• Artist use both Actual texture ( how thing feels) and Implied
texture( how things looks like they feel.
• Smooth matte texture makes area smaller.
• Rough, shiny makes are bigger.
• Texture examples are shinny, rough, silky, Furry etc.
Pattern

• Function like a texture.


• Adds volume, personality. Masculine, feminine, bold, soft and
dramatic.
Colour

• Color is perception. Our eyes see something


(the sky, for example), and data sent from
our eyes to our brains tells us it’s a certain
color (blue).

90% of that decision is based
solely on color.
• Colours can affect- psychologically,
emotionally and Physically.
