Estimate for “Improvements to water supply system of Chaamrajanagara city

under AMTUTH2.0” amounting to Rs.109.87 Crores (CAPITAL COST –
Rs.102.00 crore + O&M COST – Rs.7.87 crore)

Draft DBOT document for the tender work of “Improvements to water supply
system of Chaamrajanagara city under AMTUTH2.0” amounting to Rs.85.74
Crore.
BRIEF DETAILS ABOUT THE CITY & EXISTING WATER SUPPLY
SYSTEM
 Chamarajanagara city is a district head quarter, located at a distance of 175
Kms from Bangalore.
 No. of Wards - 31.
 Area of the CMC limit - 18.75 SqKm
 Total Road length in CMC & CRUDA limit- 243 Km.
 2011 census : Population -69875, Nos. of households -16191.
 As per CWBP - 1) 2021 Population -85830 and No. of households - 20704.
2) 2025 Population -90558 and No. of households - 22360.
 The existing water supply system:
 Source: River Kabini, tapping near T. Narasipura town.
 Commissioned during Dec-2000.
 En-route villages : 8 Nos.
 Operation & Maintenance: by CMC, Chamarajanagara.
 At present, an average of 9 MLD of water is being supplied to the city once @
80 LPCD once in 3-5 days.
 The RDWS&SD is separating the 8 enroute villages, by providing water supply
from the MVS scheme of the Chamarajanagara taluk, commissioned in the
year 2018. The tendering work is under process.
 Hence the existing 15 MLD (in 20 Hrs) capacity system can be completely
utilized for the city, by carrying out required Rehabilitation works.
NECESSITY OF PROPOSED SCHEME
 The design period of existing 15MLD (in 20 Hrs) capacity water supply scheme is completed
in 2021.
 In the existing water supply system, at Head works, the intake is washed away long back,
due to sand mining, Connecting main is drawing water from the edge of he river, through
old inspection chamber. Hence, Head works need rejuvenation & Improvement works.
 Flow in the River at the existing headwork is lean during summers (March to May) (sand
bund is provided across the river during 2017 to head up the water level) But, during
drinking water scarcity for Bangalore, the water released from KRS/Kabini dam has to
pass through the above Head work. Hence, the source can be considered as dependable.
 The existing scheme of 15 MLD (in 20 Hrs) capacity is to be completely utilised for the
Chamarajanagara city, by carrying out the improvements & Rehabilitation works in the
existing system. Required additional demand of 1.5 MLD for CIMS & other institutes can
be catered by increasing the pumping hours by 2 Hrs, once infrastructure for providing
water supply to CIMS is completed.
 The old distribution system, consisting of under capacity PVC/CI/GI pipes is not sufficient
and several frequent failures/leakages have been observed over a period of time. The CMC
authorities are facing lot of problems in supplying the required quantity of water Hence
distribution system needs remodeling for achieving required pressure & velocity in the
system for supplying 135 LPCD.
 Under AMRUT 2.0, it is proposed to cover all house holds with HSC, by covering gap,
Change over of connection & by regularising the unauthorized connections.
DETAILS OF PROPOSED SCHEME
 Head works:
Retained : Existing 6 mtr dia Jack well & S.G. Room with Rejuvenation works.
Transformer Yard, 11kV Express feeder. Control Panels & Cables.
Proposed : i) Construction of 4 m dia Intake well & inspection chamber,
ii) Providing 1000 mm dia RCC (NP-3) connecting pipeline of-110 mtr.
iii) Providing 540 HP capacity (210 LPS & 140 m head) Raw water
DWVT pumping machinery with soft starters by replacing old, 700
HP (229 LPS & 168.5 Mtr head) pumping machinery (commissioned
in Dec-2000).
This will match the pumping capacity from WTP to city,
reduces the pressure on the raw water rising main, and there will be
savings in the power charges.
 500 mm dia MS Raw water Transmission Main: ( Total Length : 25.45 Km)
Retained: 16.95 Km
Proposed :8.5 Km length 508 mm dia 7.1 mm thick MS pipe line to replace
weaken & high pressure reaches of rising main.
 Water Treatment Palnt (15 MLD in 20 Hrs) :
Retained : i) WTP, 3 LL capacity pure water sump & Pure water pump house is
retained with required replacements& Rejuvenation works.
ii) Existing 3 Nos. (2W+1S) of 250 HP centrifugal pumpsets (104
LPS & 110 M head )
Proposed : V- wire under drain system, Air blowers, Recycling of wash water
along with sludge drying beds.
DETAILS OF PROPOSED SCHEME
 500 mm dia MS/DI Pure water Transmission Main: ( Total Length : 11.70+1.25 Km)
Retained: 10.5 Km MS & 1.25 Km DI Pipline
Proposed : 1.2 Km length 508 mm dia 5.6 mm thick MS pipe line to replace weaken & high
pressure reaches of rising main.
 Feeder Mains to Over Head Tanks (Tapings from transmission main) :
Retained : -Nil- Existing Feeders of total length 3735 mtr are old CI lines, is not sufficient
and several frequent failures/leakages are observed over a period of time. Also
at many point, feeders are directly linked to distribution system, hence OHTs
are not receiving sufficient water due to loss of Head.
Proposed : DI (K-9) feeder mains
350 mm dia : 1835 mtr.
250 mm dia : 1439 mtr
200 mm dia : 1438 mtr.
 Service Reservoirs (OHTs) :
Retained: i)10 LL OHTs (Existing) : 5 Nos = 50 LL
ii) 15 LL OHT (Existing) : 1 No. = 15 LL
iii) 15 LL OHT (On-going) : 1 No. = 15 LL
Proposed : i) 15 LL OHT : 1 No. = 15 LL (by Demolishing defunct 10 LL OHT).

a) Intermediate demand of city excluding institutions demand : 18.00 MLD

b) Total Storage Provided : 9.50 ML (53 % for Intermediate demand)
It is Proposed to Rejuvenate the old OHTs with required repairs & replacement.

 Distribution network:
Existing : 50 mm to 300 mm dia GI/CI/PVC/DI/HDPE pipelines of 132 Km length.
Retained : 90 to 300 mm dia HDPE/DI pipelines – 47.45 Km
Proposed : 75 mm to 350 mm dia HDPE/DI Piplines – 159.30 Km
