o Autism Spectrum Disorder – Visual schedules help individuals
with autism better understand information and allows them to
know when they will be transitioning between activities so that
they do not get overwhelmed during transition.
o ADHD – Visual schedules help individuals with ADHD remain on
task, they know what they are supposed to be doing and when.

o There is an online Visual Schedule Planner application on the app
store.
o Teachers can make and print out visual schedules to provide to
students at the beginning of each school day.
• Purpose of the device:
o The purpose of visual schedules is to lay out the upcoming
sequence of events in a student’s day using images. Visual
schedules let students know where they should be in the day and
when.

• Disability categories that can benefit and why:
o Visual Impairment/Blindness – This device benefits
individuals who are blind or visually impaired because it
allows them to pour themselves a hot or cold drink
independently without worrying about overfilling the cup
and burning themselves or making a mess.

o The purpose of this device is to beep at the individual
who cannot see the level of his/her cup when the hot or
cold liquid touches the prongs. The individual hangs the
device on the side of the cup and the prongs sense the hot
or cold liquid.

o Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing – FM Systems send the speakers voice
directly to a receiver in the individual’s ear or hearing aid,
allowing them to better hear a person speaking.

• Purpose of the device:
o The purpose of FM Systems is for the speaker to wear a
microphone that sends signals to a receiver on the individuals
who is deaf or hard-of-hearing’s ear or to their hearing aid.
The speakers voice goes directly into the individuals ear
making it easier to hear the person with the microphone.

o Autism Spectrum Disorder – PECS benefits students with
autism who are nonverbal by providing them with a way to
communicate with people without using words.

o Teachers can print out and make their own PECS boards for

• Purpose of the device:
o The purpose of PECS is to help nonverbal individuals
communicate their wants and needs without using words.
PECS provides images for students to point to, to indicate
something that they want or need. Digital PECS boards can
even voice what the student chooses so that the teacher can
hear.
o These boards are used by the individual with autism to
communicate with other people or can be used by others to
communicate with the individual with autism in a way they
easily understand.

• Disability categories that can benefit and why:
o Learning Disabilities– Individuals with LD in the area of
writing can benefit from this app because they do not need to
physically type or write out their answer. Individuals with
LD in the area of math can explain the steps they took on a
math problem.
o Orthopedic Impairment (muscular dystrophy) – Muscular
dystrophy affect a student's motor development and therefore
may not be able to hold a pencil to write or use their fingers
to type. Recap allows students to answer prompts orally.

• Purpose of the app:
o Recap is a free video response and reflection app that
captures student thinking on video.
o Allows teachers to have insight on their students thinking
processes to be able to individualize instruction.
o Recap also helps to boost peer learning by watching other
classmate's videos.

struggle with social skills and understanding emotions.
This app teaches students to recognize social cues,
identify emotions, a learn action words based on facial
expressions.

• Purpose of the app:
o Peek-a-Zoo is a questions-based app that helps link
sound and visual cues with vocabulary.
o Encourages students to analyze the animals for clues to
answer questions and come to conclusions.
o Through the questions, students are encouraged to
identify emotions, label feelings, and take note of
specific actions.
