SOLUBILITY

SOLUBLE vs. INSOLUBLE

• SOLUBLE: solids that can dissolve in a liquid

• INSOLUBLE: solids that so not dissolve in a

liquid
– Still solid within the liquid
Factors that affect the ability of solute to dissolve in a
solvent

1. Temperature of the solvent : the higher the temperature of the

solvent, the faster solute will dissolve

2. Surface Area : the bigger the surfece area, the faster solute will
dissolve

3. Effect of stirring : stirring increase the rate at which the solute

dissolves in the solvent
